    Medical Consultant
Biotech, Pharma, And Device Companies Mar 1994 - Mar 2012
Scope of work includes aerosol delivery issues, protocol design (Phase I-IV), strategies to improve clinical trial enrollment, and messaging for marketing and education for providers and patients. Consulting for Mpex Pharmaceuticals in 2004 led to our lab characterizing aerosol devices for their formulations, designing and executing the Phase I study, and later our CF Center leading enrollment for the successful completion of Phase II and III studies of inhaled levofloxacin. I also advised and encouraged Pathogenesis (now Novartis) to develop TOBI as a dry-powder formulation using Pulmosphere technology. We were high recruiters in the clinical trials that led to TOBI Podhaler approval in the U.S., Canada, and several other countries., reducing the treatment burden for thousands of patients worldwide.
  • Nemours Children’S Clinic, Orlando
Director, Aerosol Research Lab And Cystic Fibrosis Center
    Nemours Children’S Clinic, Orlando Mar 1997 - Feb 2012
The aerosol research lab was set up with the chief goal of understanding and improving the delivery of inhaled medications, with major emphasis on children. Since I was the director of both the 'basic science' aerosol lab as well as the Cystic Fibrosis Center, we were able to do several translation studies for inhaled therapeutics in an attempt to improve lung targeting and reduce the treatment burden of CF and other respiratory diseases. I was honored to be able to translate 'aerosol speak' to a more digestible form for patients, caregivers and clinicians through a series of publications and lectures at regional, national and global venues. During my tenure as CF Center Director, we also engaged in dozens of clinical research trials, and we were often the global leaders in enrollment for these studies. The reward was the successful launch of several new therapies for the unmet needs of cystic fibrosis.
