My main private sector board role now is as chairman of the board of the French mid-size company (ETI) Segard Masurel, a leader in international wool trading with subsidiaries in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. I live in Strasbourg and in Britanny. I recently retired from my role as Chairman of Natural Resources 2000 Ltd, an early-stage company developing environmentally sustainable paper packaging for food and drink / consumer goods applications based on patented paper pulp technology . For many years I have been involved in adult education, and particularly now in the "université populaire" movement in France. I am on the boards of the Association des Universités Populaires de France and of the Université Populaire Européenne de Strasbourg, the largest popular university in France, which is based in the main Strasbourg University but operates independently. One of my interests is the development of economic thought, its relation to ecology and environmentalism and socialism, and the way these subjects are taught and perceived in public policy debate.
