My initial career goal was to teach and perform music as a church organist and choir director and college teacher. To that end I completed bachelors and masters degrees in music and started a doctorate. Almost by accident I got a summer job building pipe organs. When there were no good jobs to be found in music, I stayed on at the organ shop for 14 years, eventually becoming head voicer. During this time I also taught at a college with a non-tenure-track contract. A career change seemed in order, so after learning the basics of programming at Control Data Institute, I entered the world of software, where I have remained for over 25 years. I continue to service pipe organs in the Twin Cities area. In 2013 I formed a Partnership with David Grandall Organwerks. In 2016 I started backing away from the day to day operations and moved to Palm Springs, CA. I do computer work and return to the shop as needed, mostly for voicing.
