I was responsible for handling a workload of roughly 200-220 Personal Lines Auto Claims in the Nonstandard Auto Claims Division. As a member of the Large Loss Unit, I worked auto claims that involved serious injuries, fatalities, and other large exposures. I investigated coverage and liability, and negotiated claims to their resolution. I also managed some litigated claims, working with outside defense counsel to efficiently manage the litigation and protect our insured's interests. I handled claims in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, and Nevada.

During my time at Kelley & Kelley, my insurance claims experience made me the natural "go-to guy" for personal injury cases. I successfully negotiated settlements with the insurance companies on our clients' behalf, and I showed my willingness to take tough cases to trial by trying an auto accident case in a jury trial at the Marion County Courthouse. I also practiced in various areas of law, reviewing contracts, assisting in real estate transactions, and representing clients in family law cases.

As a clinic student I regularly appeared 1-2 times per week as the state's representative in court for arraignments of misdemeanor and felony crimes. I also researched issues in pending criminal cases for the Assistant District Attorneys.

I helped draft a brief that was argued before the Oregon Court of Appeals regarding a contract issue in a labor relations case. My chief duty was to research legal issues in pending cases before the Oregon Employment Relations Board.

I worked in the District Attorney's fraud unit, researching legal issues for the Deputy District Attorneys in cases involving workers compensation fraud, premium fraud, real estate fraud, and auto insurance fraud. I appeared in court as the state's representative in a preliminary hearing, successfully holding the defendant to answer on two counts of insurance fraud. I also assisted in reviewing auto insurance claims files for possible fraud prosecutions.
