Provided scientific leadership and management of the biomaterials/biomechanics research and testing programme within the Smith & Nephew Research Centre.• Led a research programme in biomaterials as part of the company's Enabling Technologies programme - a programme of relatively early stage research aimed at building technology platforms that could be applied across the different divisions of the company.• Formulated and implemented the company’s technology strategy for the development of new biomaterials.• Developed and managed a major extra-mural research programme which included securing over £4.3 million in grant funding.• Led and managed a group of up to 12 graduate/PhD scientists.• Carried out technology scouting and technical due diligence on over 20 external biomaterials technology opportunities.• Carried out preclinical bench and ex vivo testing of orthopaedic implants and other S&N products to support research projects, marketing and regulatory submissions.• Projects worked on included new bioresorbable composites, high performance bioresorbable polymers, shape memory polymers, novel bone void filling materials, bone/tissue adhesives, scaffold materials.

Responsible for management of Smith & Nephew Surgical Skills Centre.• Managed world-class cadaveric training facility providing medical education to healthcare professionals from across UK/Europe and the rest of the world.• Managed budget of the centre and introduced new metrics on utilisation to drive increased usage.• Developed customer relationships with surgeons and other users of the centre.• Responsible for line management of team of five lab staff/event co-ordinator.

• Gave three lectures a year to undergraduates/MSc students on biomaterials courses and participated in evaluation of some coursework activities.• Lectured on bioresorbable polymers, commercialisation of medical devices, emerging technologies in medical devices.• Honorary unpaid position
