The Melanoma Research Foundation is a 501c3 organization providing research grants, education, and advocacy. The organization is supported primarily through contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations, including both single and multi-year gifts, bequests, and both unrestricted and restricted contributions. The organization also engages in special events and receives donated goods and services, including some which do, and some which do not, qualify as in-kind contributions.Managed internal and outsourced finance teams for all major accounting cycles as well as outsourced HR and IT vendors. Reviewed internal controls associated with financial management, data security, and physical location security. Initiated implementation of password management solution to enhance data security and coordinated with outsourced IT to plan for improved user rights provisioning. Responsible for ensuring compliance with GAAP and federal, state, and local filing requirements, including revenue recognition and net assets release issues, charitable registrations, and payroll tax filings and corrections. Coordinated with Board of Directors and served as a member of the senior leadership team overseeing strategic planning.

IRIS, a $30m federally funded research Consortium, merged in 2023 with UNAVCO to become the EarthScope Consortium. IRIS managed numerous multi-year federal awards .Managed structures and staffing for all major accounting cycles and coordinated with senior management, HR, IT, and programmatic personnel. Strategically led the execution of finance operations and oversaw the execution of policies, projects, and procedures in collaboration with staff at all organizational levels.Prepared and and managed the RFP process for both audits and financial systems reviews. Planned and managed the upgrade from Deltek GCS to Deltek Costpoint accounting system resulting in less than 2 days processing downtime and successful completion of month end and fiscal year close deadlines. Recommended and implemented SAP Concur Travel, Expense, and A/P Automation systems, in early 2020, allowing for finance department's seamless transition from full-time in-office to fully remote work environment while significantly reducing staff hours associated with A/P and expense reporting.Planned accounting and financial systems coordination as part of IRIS and UNAVCO merger to create the EarthScope Consortium, including numerous systems utilizing different account, project, approval, and fiscal year structures. Initiated and served as founding member of internal IT Coordination Committee to ensure cross-departmental planning and needs identification for the merger process as well as long-term strategic planning.

Raffa, PC (since acquired by Marcum, LLP) was a Washington DC based CPA firm specialized in providing audit, tax, outsourced accounting, HR, and consulting services to local, regional, and national not-for-profit clients.Served as a staff accountant on both audit and tax preparation before transitioning to outsourced accounting services. Performed and managed accounting cycle and month end close processes for multiple clients on a continuous basis. Developed and led trainings for junior staff, researched accounting topics for manager and partner review, and provided process improvement recommendations to clients. Managed clients on softwares including Quickbooks, Quickbooks Online, Intacct, Peachtree, Microsoft Dynamics SL, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Fund-EZ, and several others. Designated as departmental expert on both Quickbooks and Peachtree accounting softwares.Reviewed existing accounting systems and/or designed and implemented new systems for clients to ensure adequate coding and reporting structure existed to facilitate differing statutory (federal, state, and audit), board-level, senior management, departmental, and operational needs.Some accomplishments include:- Development of electronic workpapers file for use by outsourced accounting department to facilitate move towards paperless environment- Reconstruction of 3+ years' of a client's financial records required due to several years of mismanagement by their prior New Orleans-based outsourced bookkeepers who had suffered impairments to both staff and physical records as a result of hurricane Katrina.- Revised manual financial statement preparation for client reporting packages of nine and 17 reports, reducing monthly preparation time by approximately 85% (7 hrs) and 95% (8 hrs), respectively
