Risk Manager
I massaged the paper for Balance Orlando while our highly educated and experienced therapists massage our clients. That paper included managing the individual LMT certificates of insurance (COI's) for their Professional Liability insurance coverage, produced the annual Summary of Insurance for the corporation to the Owner and CEO of the organization, worked with our insurance agent Cathy Keene (J. Meyers Insurance Agency) to obtain the broadest coverages at the lowest premium, used our QuickBooks Online (QBO) accounting software to track the risk management budget, and provided document review for our Office Manager and Communications Director to ensure our policies, procedures, and communications are not creating for Balance Orlando any additional exposures.I have developed and executed a plan in 2018 to address and manage our risks as it relates to Cyber Security, Corporate Liability, Therapist Liability, Property exposures, Employee Liability. I advised and consulted the Owner and CEO on our Enterprise Risk Management status and review the most cost-efficient strategies for keeping our risks predictable while maintaining maximum opportunities for our operation to achieve and maintain profitable growth. Please view the linked video below to get an understanding of how Balance Orlando does massage therapy from our Owner, Lu Mueller-Kaul.
Broker
In 2016, Teresa Fillmon recommended that I apply for a new team opening up for Placement (Broking). I was accepted and was assigned to handle Placement in the Midwest region. I learned a great deal from my Midwest colleagues about property exposure collection, carrier negotiations, and time-efficient policy analysis. I contributed to the team, who was new to Willis Towers Watson, by detailing company culture, by expressing our need to properly interface with our Mumbai, Manila, and Nashville teams (in India, the Philippines, and Tennessee respectively); by communicating our need to be fully collaborative with our field offices in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Kansas, and Wisconsin; and I provided interpretation into English for what we called "Willis Words" - the corporate jargon every large firm develops over time.By 2017, I established myself as a thought leader in the OIP Center for both insurance knowledge and WTW procedural knowledge. Both leaders and my colleagues regularly sought my advice on all aspects of the operation. It was an exciting time for the first year, but after awhile I was ready for my next challenge. And that opportunity arrived in early 2018.
Client Services Specialist
Willis Towers Watson was starting a new internal reorganization called Skyline (now called OIP). The concept was to concentrate skilled CSR's and Brokers together in a single facility to handle policies from $5,000 to $25,000 in revenue from across the country. There would eventually be two such facilities, one in Tampa, FL to handle all of the policies east of Denver and a facility in Scottsdale, AZ to handle all of the policies west of Denver. (These are not exact boundaries, will you have to consult the company's website for exact regional boundaries.)In 2015, I learned of the facility being opened up in Tampa and I believed it would be a great way to broaden my hands-on knowledge of Property & Casualty Insurance. Prior to this, I had a very deep understanding of Controlled Insurance Programs, but it was a narrow specialization. Teresa Fillmon brought me and 12 others onborad in July of 2015 to open up the Tampa Center. I started as a Client Service Specialist handling policies for the Midwest. In a few months, I mastered our agency management system, EPIC.I developed a rapport with my supervisor, David Gallace, as we both liked discussing the finer details and mechanics of insurance and were direct individuals who liked to resolve situations quickly. David Gallace founded an Insurance Education Committee for the growing staff so all members of the Center could learn beginning topics of risk management, advanced principles of risk management, and stay current with news affecting the insurance industry. The work involved researching topics, meeting once a week to decide which topic should be presented next, completing the topic presentation, distributing the presentation to fellow Committee members, and then giving your presentation to a team of about 10 staff weekly. I took great pleasure in this voluntary assignment. In time I was ready for my next role in the Center.
Client Manager
In 2008, the Southeast Regional Lead for Controlled Insurance Programs, Charlotte Smith-Wilkes, gave me the opportunity to join her team in Willis (It was just Willis in those days.) For the next seven years, I would perform Wrap-Up policy administration for public and private entities in projects across the United States with values ranging from $5 million to over $300 million in Hard Dollar Construction Value. My largest contribution was to lead the effort to make all our certificates digital. Previously, our certificate paper files took about 15 minutes to research for determining if a contractor had current coverage or not. Now after the digital conversion was complete, such research took 2 minutes. As each CIP had several hundred certificates to track, I saved several thousand hours for our team over my seven-year tenure.During this time, I experienced tremendous personal and professional growth. I greatly increased my ability to listen, to collaborate, and to graciously accept constructive criticism. In 2012, I decided to invest in myself professionally and make Risk Management my career. The first step was to complete the Associate of Risk Management program in late 2012. Then I would spend the next two years completing the other courses required to obtain my CPCU designation in 2014. I joined the International Insurance Interest Group (3iG) at my Conferment Ceremony because I traveled to China in 2001 where I discovered my love of meeting new peoples and cultures, and this 3iG gives me the chance to discuss risk management with fellow professionals in the Caribbean, the Middle East, India, Russia, China, and Japan. My penchant for efficiency was stretched to its limit during the Great Recession as we took on additional projects with no additional support. The proof of this was when I left in 2015 for another internal opportunity, they had to hire two people to replace my position.
Avp Of Wrap Administration
This was the beginning of my career in Risk Management. I was given the opportunity by a caring and dedicated Agency Owner, George Schank, to make something of myself professionally.I started as a file clerk in 2003 sorting and filing (still in paper files those days) certificates of insurance for our Construction OCIP's and CCIP's (Owner and Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs). These are insurance programs for construction projects that can include such insurance coverages as Workers Compensation, General Liability, Umbrella Liability, Builders Risk, and Pollution Liability. I achieved mastery over Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. In 2004, the previous Wrap Administrator left unexpectedly and took/destroyed most of our electronic data related to these OCIP's and CCIP's. Mr. Schank promoted me to Wrap Administrator with the grave and mighty task of reconstructing the data without clients noticing any disruption in service. In 90 days, I had completed this acheivement of restoring over 500 contractor files from 4 different CIP's involving about $10 million in Wrap premiums. I was driven to make this project succeed. In 2006, Mr. Schank was growing his Wrap (aka CIP, OCIP, CCIP) operations and invited me to become his Assistant Vice President of Wrap Administration. In that role, I created and enforced the agency's Wrap Administration service guidelines to maintain a consistent level of service from our team of 4 Wrap personnel, for who I managed and was responsible for their performance. I worked directly with Mr. Schank in prospecting new opportunities, and in drafting and revising Wrap Administration RFI's and Proposals, sometimes pulling all-nighters to meet an Owner's 10:00 a.m. deadline.I wish I could share some current information about this organization, but the agency was significantly reduced and altered due to the Great Recession. I will always carry with me the valuable lessons taught to me by Mr. Schank.
