Resident Pharmacist

The Albuquerque Indian Health Center Pharmacy Residency program exists to train and equip future pharmacists with the skills and tools necessary to function as independent, responsible practitioners, who are good managers of the medication use process, participants in medication safety, and educators of patients, providers, and pharmacy students. Residents will also be effective pharmacist clinicians, able to successfully run pharmacy based clinics. In addition to these characteristics, residents will possess leadership skills and strong roots in the Public Health service for successful careers as both pharmacists and commissioned officers upon completion of this program.My residency rotations included: Anticoagulation in an inpatient and out patient setting, Internal Medicine, Clinical Informatics, Automated Dispensing tobacco cessation, pain. Ambulatory Patient Care, and a rotation at Phoenix Indian Medical Center where I participated in Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Clinic, Tobacco Cessation Clinic, Immunization Clinic, and Latent Tuberculosis Clinic. Participated in a pharmacy teaching program and gave a lecture to University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy students. Assisted processing and checking filled prescriptions, supervised 5 pharmacy technicians and 8 pharmacy interns, compounded extemporaneous non-sterile preparations, handled physician calls, elicited therapeutic interventions, provided effective patient consultations, and utilized automated prescription filling stations.
