Brain in Hand is an on-demand support system accessible via mobile, tablet and PC which delivers both pre-planned digital solutions and human support via a digital interface. A self-management tool for everyday living. It was originally designed specifically to help people with autism although it is now also used extensively in mental health pathways, learning disabilities and acquired brain injury. It is used in Adult and Children’s services in over 25% of local authorities social care teams, and in education over 80% of universities in England have students using Brain in Hand. In total we have helped over 4,000 people. Some authorities report savings of up to £6,500 per person and we have a long list of user case studies where they have achieved things on their own that they would not have thought was possible.Our vision is for BIH to support all stages of life: improving access and attainment in school; helping students follow a course of higher education; supporting the transition into (and maintaining) work; and being part of the range of support that can be offered to people who from have a lifelong condition or experience episodic poor mental health. It has been developed with extensive input from end users, and 77% of those using it report a “very positive” impact on their lives.

I work at the top level in both the public and private sector, and am equally comfortable with long-term strategic change or short-term business turnaround. I have spent most of my career developing new businesses, and advising chief executives and board members on implementing major change in a variety sectors that range from central and local government, health and policing in the public sector, to the pharmaceuticals & healthcare industry, financial services and consumer technology in the private sector. I am used to acting in a non executive or advisory capacity, or taking leadership of major projects and businesses.I now take on directorships and projects where I feel I can make a difference, because of my experience and skills, or because of the nature of the business, whether in the private, public or charitable sectors. I am currently working with organisations as diverse as a technology start up, a leading think tank, and a children’s charity.Specialties: Strategy, business start up or expansion, complex change, public/private partnerships, finance, better government services for citizens. At PA I led a team providing a full range of advice and support in building modern, responsive local government, typically on big projects of strategic and corporate significance, implementing new ideas for the first time. I provided strategic and commercial advice at board level to build public / private partnerships from £150m to £850m in value, advice and implementation of big change in large complex organisations, and a full range of improvement advice and major programme delivery.

Lister Healthcare, our parent company, expanded from diagnostic services to direct running of healthcare services, with the single biggest investment being £28m to buy and develop a new private hospital in London, the Stamford. My responsibility was to mange the funding of this project, the venture capital backing , and with the CEO and management team helped set this business up from zero base within 9 months, employing over 100 people and with a full range of clinical services. I was a board member and equity holder

Backed by private equity, Robinia built and ran chain of specialist nursing and care homes. I joined the company as finance director during their first year of operation. During my time with the group, we revitalized the homes we operated, successfully acquired a number of further homes,and renegotiated the financial backing. The business was sold successfully a few years later. I was a board member and equity participant.

The King’s Fund is often referred to in the media as the UK's leading independent health "think-tank". My role there was to develop and lead a consultancy unit who offered the first quality program for private and NHS hospitals in the UK, extending this to primary care and commissioning in later years. We also worked at a national level to establish this approach with government and professional and management organisations. We worked with over 200 hospitals, nearly 50% of those in England and Wales.
