Help Integrity workers build meaningful relationships in order to support one another and make their voices heard in critical policy discussions. The people who deal with online harms inside of major technology platforms are often brilliant, deeply values-driven, and isolated. I lead the Integrity Institute's efforts to invite these professionals into relationship with one another to support their mental health, become more effective at their critically important jobs and play a shared role in the larger movement to build a better social internet.Lead a 3-person team responsible for welcoming new members, helping them connect with one another, and supporting them if they choose to step into leadership. These leaders and the community supporting the regularly advise senior policymakers across the globe on issues related to the social internet, as well as shaping industry best practices around the defense of elections, informing public dialogue about how to effectively protect kids online, and helping to lay the foundation for the field of AI Integrity.

Working to help people who build relationships to drive change demonstrate impact. Nurturing relationships is often at the core of how we drive change in the world, but relational outcomes can be difficult to report to funders. Leveraging a background in movement organizing, relational systems science, and API integration I help organizations understand and act on the strategic landscape emerging from the relationships that they have invested in creating.

Serve as a board member for Fairplay, a leading national organization working to protect children from manipulation through advertising and harmful technology.

Spearheaded the world’s first and largest community of people identifying as asexual, serving as media spokesperson, lead strategist and CTO. Asexuality.org has attracted over 70,000 members, been translated into over a dozen languages, executed a successful international public awareness campaign and been the subject of a feature-length documentary. Has led direct organizing, movement strategy, partnership development and media efforts for over a decade.

Led movement strategy and operations, with an emphasis on helping humane technologists and other key stakeholders find a community of allies and drive change. Highlights include:- Developed and Launched Foundations of Humane Technology, an online coursed aimed at senior and mid-career technologists. Course has attracted over 11,000 participants with an average rating of 4.6/5 stars, and has led to substantive change in product philosophy throughout the industry. Laid groundwork for a robust community of practice and internal advocacy among course participants.- Led mobilization strategy in the wake of The Social Dilemma on Netflix, which activated hundreds of thousands across the globe. Funneled excitement into a weekly event series which connected participants with existing efforts around humane technology and one another. Events regularly received over 500 engaged participants, resulted in volunteers and key hires for allied organizations, and sparked the founding of numerous new initiatives across the globe.- Supported a network of allies inside of over a dozen large technology companies, providing them with information and connections to support internal advocacy while respecting NDAs.- Advised dozens of state and national legislators and regulators across the globe on systemically addressing the harms of social media, generally working in coalition with ally organizations across the tech reform space.- Supported the development of emerging leadership within the tech reform movement, most notably among young people, current and former integrity workers, and survivors of harm.

Built a platform which allows political campaigns to have more personal conversations with volunteers about why they have chosen to show up and do work. These conversations lead to a notable improvement in volunteer engagement, and build powerful relationships that last between political cycles.

Founded and led development for a chat platform designed around intimate, highly engaging conversation. Succeeded in creating very high engagement rates, with roughly 70% of participants posting at least two messages in a conversation (competitors range from 1-5% conversion.) Platform included robust moderation tools, disintermediated cryptographic identity management, and high-conversion crowdfunding. Built with Node, GraphQL and React.

Developed open-source commenting systems for major newspapers. Architected a highly configurable front end in React, so that editors and journalists can structure the kinds of conversations they want to have about the news.

Co-led the creation of Presto, a library which uses the sensors in a smartwatch to detect movement of a users' hand, as well as gestures such as a snap or flick. Presto can be used to control your music with the wave of a hand, or to manipulate objects in virtual reality. Primary responsibilities included development of the library and sample gesture-powered applications (shared with one other developer), UX research and strategy, and management of the data pipeline for our machine learning process.

Participant in and manager of the Samsung Accelerator's Hacker in Residence program, which gives skilled developers an opportunity to define and build products that scale through the world's largest consumer electronics manufacturer.

Built a highly engaging platform for research scientists to share opinions about published data. Conducted in-depth ethnographic and usability research to uncover why other post-publication peer review platforms were failing, identifying key pain points. Designed and built web-based platform and API in Rails. Journal Lab achieved user engagement and return rates multiple orders of magnitude higher than the competition. The platform is in active use among stem cell and cancer labs at UCSF and Berkeley.

Served as strategic technical advisor to a web-based startup which sells high-end furniture to independent interior designers. Spearheaded A/B testing, conducted in-person and remote user interviews, served as liaison for technical team and developed features directly.

Designed and spearheaded creation of a peer-to-peer best practices forum, the first of its kind in the industry. Performed in-depth user interviews, developed personas, worked with design team, and established launch and ongoing promotion strategies.

Studied sustainable business practices with an emphasis on water management. Led teams which placed in two nationally ranked business plan competitions, founded three student organizations, and served as vice-president of the student body.

Developed partnerships for Factual, an organization built around aggregating and exploring large datasets. Implemented organization’s first CRM and pipeline reporting and built partnerships with organizations such as PETA and Good Guide.

Developed new features for nonprofit organizations. Managed development process from strategic planning through end-user research, design, spec writing, and engagement with development team. Improvements improved signup rates and saved organization $50,000 annually in staff time.
