I continued the research I did over the summer into the fall by shifting focus in developing a python interface for the FEM software for ease of use. Specifically, I became familiar with the pytecplot Python module to create output plots necessary to interpret error.

I participated in the MSRP program where I worked with Dr. David Darmofal to analyze the accuracy of adaptive higher order Finite Element Methods. I did so by creating a non-linear test case with a known solution to infer the accuracy for unsolvable cases involving partial differential equations (PDEs). In Python, I plotted the convergence error vs theoretical error to conclude that the software accurately approximated a solution - allowing for further research using such methods.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Ruben Delgado and Maurice Roots I sought to understand how aviation is contributing to climate change and evaluate methods in reducing climate impact. I created a python model that predicted areas suitable for contrail (condensation trail) formation and demonstrated the feasibility of such a solution.
