About David Hanley

I am a currently a postdoctoral research associate with the Surgical and Interventional Robotics Group at the University of Edinburgh. This group, led by Mohsen Khadem, is with the School of Informatics and the Center for Inflammation Research at the Queen's Medical Research Institute. I currently work on state estimation of continuum robots such as those used in robotic bronchoscopy.I received my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) where I worked with Timothy Bretl on indoor positioning systems using variations of Earth’s magnetic field that are often present in buildings and research on inertial navigation systems. I was an Illinois Space Grant Consortium Fellow from 2019 to 2020. During the 2018-2019 school year, I was a Mavis Future Faculty Fellow. In the Spring of 2018, I was an Aerospace Engineering Graduate Teaching Fellow. I graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from UIUC in 2013 and 2015 respectively. I have worked at Qualcomm, Raytheon Missile Systems, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and GE Aviation.
