One for Ireland is a charitable movement created to challenge youth homelessness in Ireland. By asking for €1. From 1 million people. In 1 day. On the 29th of April you can give One For Ireland and make a real change to reduce and alleviate Youth Homelessness. We wanted to incorporate charitable donations into people’s daily lives. On a specific day in 2016, when you are paying for your goods in any major retailer, every customer will be asked, “Would you like to give One for Ireland?” The customer then has the option to add €1 to whatever they are purchasing. Along with voluntary donations through various platforms and movements online, One for Ireland hopes to raise €1 million on the day. There are over 1,500 homeless children from over 500 families in Ireland today. With almost a 100% increase in children living in emergency accommodation or on the streets since 2014, this is the most pressing social issue in Ireland. We want to make a difference by distributing the funds to organisations (both national and local) that can make a real and positive impact in reducing the number of homeless young people in Ireland, and addressing the issues that face them.

Communication Consultant/Volunteer
Working in the communications section with the communications lead we are charged with communicating with each sponsor of the charity. Each child has a sponsor that supports their care and education. The overall aim is to eventually reintegrate these kids back into their families in their rural villagesWhat the organisation also does;Rescue ChildrenThe Umbrella Foundation was founded in response to the growing number of corrupt children’s homes or ‘orphanages’ in Kathmandu that neglected their children’s most basic rights – food, education, safe shelter, healthcare and love. In October 2005, with the help of the Nepali government’s Child Welfare Board (CWB), Umbrella carried out our initial rescue and closed down the first of these rogue facilities.Community SupportAs a responsible and ethical charity, Umbrella works to spread awareness and implement programmes which prevent further child-trafficking and improve quality of life in vulnerable rural communities. Our projects to promote education, integrity of the family unit and community awareness are situated in villages across 4 districts (including Kathmandu), the origin of many children in our care and high-risk areas for trafficking.More information on http://umbrellanepal.org/

Past Pupil/ Organiser
In 2008 I traveled as part of a group of 16 year old students to Mumbai India. This trip was so life changing that when I was invited back in 2013 as an organiser I couldn't turn the opportunity down.I was in charge of 7 boys with the aid of another past pupil. We guided, provided support and were there for the students during their time in Mumbai. We worked and lived in Mumbai for 3 weeks. The main centres we worked in was1) The Mother Theresa centre in Ashadan.Roles included working in the Childrens ward, the disabled females ward and the male ward. We did not work in HIV positive or the womens ward. With these roles we could have been feeding disabled kids to cleaning mens wounds.2) Don Bosco shelter in Wadala. We tutored and played with the boys in the shelter. Helping the over worked and under resourced staff. During our time here it was not our job to fix any problems but to alleviate the pain.Seeing India change over the 5 years was extremely challenging as the rich were getting richer but the poor were getting poorer.
