About David Hewetson
I have professional interests in strategic planning; urban design and planning; integration of land use planning and transport; environmental management; spatial information and analysis (location intelligence); and creating a safe and efficient environment that promotes, as far as practical, the principles of sustainable development. I have a broad range of experience in strategic planning in Local Government. This includes planning policy development in a large provincial city (75,000 population) with a large rural hinterland in New Zealand to specialised work for the City of Sydney. In between I have taken on planning challenges for a suburban council area dealing with the challenges of infill residential redevelopment; and strategic land use planning for a council in an environmentally sensitive area surrounded by a World Heritage-listed National Park. The three years between November 2011 and March 2015 saw a career break from strategic planning as I moved into a specialist Geographic Information Systems (GIS) role. The role focused on data quality assurance and process management for planning and planning-related data. This role built and developed skills in database analysis and problem solving as well as process development, documentation, and quality assurance for data updates.I place an emphasis on demonstrating innovative techniques while recognising the importance of delivering a product that is usable and easily understood. I take pride in being able to produce researched, thorough, and well thought out solutions to planning issues. I particularly enjoy the challenges faced with problem solving, exploring, researching and analysing an issue to come up with solutions.Complementing my planning skills and qualifications are those associated with business and management, teaching, and transport.
Listed skills include Strategic Planning, Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Data Analysis, and 25 others.
