A chartered architect and product of the Welsh School of Architecture, David is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Royal Society of Architects in Wales Councillor and the first two-time President of the North Wales Society of Architects, He is a Diocesan Architect and a Member of the Cathedral Architects Association.David established Hughes:O’Hanlon Architects with Keith O'Hanlon in North Wales in 2023, with the vision of a design-led collaborative practice – achieving successful outcomes by understanding that architecture is inherently a social activity. He enjoys working with others who share his passion.He has in excess of thirty years experience – the last twenty at Principal/Director level - encompassing a variety of procurement paths and sectors primarily focused on regeneration and residential but also including retail, leisure, educational and commercial. Understanding the dialogue required to achieve successful architecture, client relationships nurtured by David have resulted in many long-standing and fruitful associations.Close teamwork in the field of design and build has delivered large multi-storey urban developments, small-scale projects and much between. The added value his commitment to excellent design grounded in commercial reality brings to a project aims to exceed clients' aspirations, whilst his close involvement at inception stage has led to a number of competition wins.A proven ability in the field of student accommodation and a hands-on approach has lead to the successful design delivery of 5000+ student bedrooms in recent years for a number of major players in the sector, whilst his experience in the healthcare sector encompasses both primary and secondary care, ranging from surgeries and medical centres to community and district general hospitals.David has extensive experience of working with national house builders on both standard house type and bespoke apartment projects, major retail operators on countrywide roll-out programmes, and developed a two-time national award winning local authority partnering arrangement.
