I have written a number of different chapters in my professional career, but they all have an underlying theme: I love adventure. I love trying new things and pushing my boundaries. And I love people. When my passion for continued learning took me on MBA school tours, I realized I wanted to be at the front as a teacher instead. When my boss talked me into buying a motorcycle with my bonus, I soon was riding to the Arctic Ocean and back. When the Navy offered me a teaching job in a plush office, I instead enlisted in a mechanized infantry unit as a medic. The longest single career chapter was as the co-founder of a SaaS company (RFP360). Even if we failed, I would have felt our effort was successful. But we were successful, by various measures. We created a product that helped our users be more productive and effective. We worked with fantastic people who were able to achieve healthy balances in their lives. And we built a company that our competitors valued enough to purchase. I started my career when SaaS was in its infancy, so I've grown along with it. I'm continually fascinated by what solutions we've invented, and I want to be part of what is next. There is a very satisfying feeling to look down a row on an airplane and see a stranger working in your software. I built that.
