Throughout my 38 year career, 32 years of which in aerospace and defence, I had the pleasure of working along-side, learning from, and leading some of the greatest and most humble people I could care to meet. I was presented with many opportunities to address significant and complex challenges delivering on customer, business, and employee expectations, and to grow both as a leader and as a human being in the process.Delivering complex ICT solutions for our armed forces is a team sport. Complex systems of systems problems require complex solutions, the development, deployment, and sustainment of which require the integration of effort across multiple disciplines, multiple stakeholders, and often multiple and potentially competing agendas.In this environment, as a General Manager of a USD 500M+ business with 2K+ staff across five countries, I was at the helm of tactical operations from strategy to execution. I had the privilege of leading my teams and supporting my colleagues in the course of significant achievements benefitting our customers, our employees, our corporation, and our broader stakeholder community:- Secured $billions in new, repeat, and follow on business- Turned around under performing businesses through performance improvement, cost reduction, focus, cultural change, and investment choice- Delivered several systems of significance to tier 1 military customers- Divested businesses that did not fit our portfolio strategy- Built trusting client relationships at multiple levels- Developed leaders to bring out the best in their teams and build their own succession- Enhanced our business reputation as a trusted provider of systems of systems solutions, products, and support, and as a member of our various local communitiesHaving retired in August 2022 I now enjoy my time with my wife, my kids, and my grand kids and wonder how I ever had time for a job! That said I remain active as an advisor and investor, and enjoy sharing my experiences with curious individuals busily trying to grow their businesses and improve outlooks for their stakeholders.
