I look beyond the quick fix. I advise on organization development, (open) innovation strategy, and systems thinking.Three careers overlap: (i) consulting and market development at multinational enterprise scale, with customer-facing roles at IBM for 28 years; (ii) a family business started by my father in the 1960s in Gravenhurst, Ontario, now as an signing officer through the winding down; and (iii) a researcher and university lecturer in business and industrial management, authoring programs and teaching at graduate schools in Canada, Finland, China, Japan and the United States.Many of my activities are easy to find on the open Internet. Less visible are consulting deliverables on client work deemed sensitive.On my business side, I had roles:* Cofounding a multinational small business in 2013. We won a $1M+ contract within 6 months.* Consulting for 9 years on business transformation and IT strategy. Clients included Fortune 500 companies, governments and not-for-profit agencies;* Opening up new customer segments for emerging technologies. Consultative selling converged on estimated business value and high-level solution architecture.On my scholarly side, I have:* Published a book. It focuses on building new theories on open innovation and open sourcing behavior.* Taught in university graduate schools, worldwide. I wrote new academic programs. lectured and advised students.* Led a venerable systems thinking organization as president. I pioneered partnerships with complementary professional associations.On the personal side: I have:* With my spouse, we've guided four sons through Canadian universities to fulfilling careers. Each spent 2 years at university in Beijing, learning Mandarin fluently.* Logged well over a million air miles. While pursuing corporate business, I connected with knowledge leaders worldwide.* Won a gold medal in varsity fencing. Starting from scratch in university, I retired from athletics after graduating.My education includes a B.Comm. and MBA. I'm within months of formally completing a Ph.D. In 2019-2020, I refreshed on tools and techniques in the certificate program on Data Analytics, Big Data and Predictive Analytics at the Ryerson Chang School. As a lifelong learner, I'm current on technology. My everyday computing is on Linux.
