I'm currently working through my BSc in Computer Science from the University of Calgary. This is, however, my second degree. My first degree is a BA from the University of Lethbridge, specifically in Digital Audio Arts (DAA). When I first started at the U of L in 2011, the DAA was the only program of its kind in western Canada. It combined aspects of a classic music degree, such as musicianship skills, music history, and music theory, with an audio engineering program, classes that included sound design, live and in studio recording and techniques, and some of the science behind sound. After graduating in 2015, I took a year and a half off to travel and figure out life. I eventually found a job in the corporate audio visual industry, setting up and operating AV equipment for large events such as conferences, conventions, and meetings. After about two and a half years, I had realized the AV industry wasn't for me due to multiple reasons, so I started exploring other options. I had a good feel for what I enjoyed and what I didn't based on my experience in AV, and luckily these days, tons of information is available online for free. After a bit of soul searching and research, my attention was captivated by programming and software development. I was so incredibly intrigued by all the possibilities programming and software development had to offer, and I loved all the problem solving that was involved, so it was a no brainer for me to consider going back to school for computer science. I was laid off in early 2020 due to the pandemic, but by this point, I was already talking to academic advisors at the U of C, upgrading the high school classes I needed, and getting ready to go back to school.In addition for a love of technology, I am a massive fitness enthusiast. Before the pandemic, I competed in at least 2 obstacle course races per summer for about 7 years in a row. I still compete in races where I can, but since the pandemic, a lot of the races I used to compete in (Spartan Race, Mud Hero, X Warrior Challenge, to name a few), have taken quite some time to get back up and running, so I'm always looking forward to summer to see what races are starting back up. In addition to racing, I love day hikes and am a total gym rat. If I'm not in class, at home, or working on a personal project, you'll most likely find me in the gym.
