About Dave Jensen
As a leader and a software engineer, I enjoy building and leading teams to build web applications, web services, and mobile applications. I am an experienced software engineer, architect, and manager having spent many years in a wide breadth of roles building usable and scalable applications for the web and mobile. I'm currently starting a new journey with VTS as a Staff Software Engineer.After NexTravel was acquired by TravelPerk in December 2020, I led the migration of NexTravel to TravelPerk, the shutdown of NexTravel, and joined the TravelPerk Open API & Marketplace team.As the Director of Software Architecture at NexTravel, I was the architect and technical lead on a project to rebuild the core systems to be scalable and maintainable, using modern frameworks and programming languages, while keeping the legacy systems up and running. I was CTO and Co-Founder of Fermented Labs, whose product is Brewd, a software platform for brewery beer production, sales, and keg tracking. I still advise the company on technology and product. We built our product offering with Aurelia (a Javascript platform like React and Angular), Go, MongoDB, plus Angular, Node.js, and MySQL.As Founder & CTO of Road Rules, we built an mobile app to help prevent distracted driving with a chat bot. I developed the Android app and the backend with Node.js, MQTT, and MongoDB. At Spoke, I led as CTO and wrote Java, Ruby, HTML, and Javascript. I introduced new technologies, implemented usable products, built the engineering team, and transitioned to Agile software development and continuous deployment. Leading our group Java engineers, together we rebuilt Spoke using Ruby on Rails and MongoDB to be the leading site for business information and intelligence. At Netscape and AOL, I worked on e-commerce web applications and a consumer shopping search engine. I developed web apps with Javascript, SSJS, C++, Tcl, Java, and SQL.Occasionally I write about craft beer on Beer47.com, and have written for Menuism and Huffington Post Food. I also operate one of the longest running websites & communities for the board game Axis & Allies.The Commodore 64 in my profile photo was my first computer and it still works!
