About David Jones
Since joining Hydrotec in 1999 as a trainee Test Engineer, I have gained a significant amount of experience and knowledge in the modelling and design of hydraulic structures, such as pumping stations, inlet works, drop shafts, flow distribution chambers, mixing chambers, drainage systems and reservoirs and reservoir spillways, in addition to modelling scour, erosion and the influence of bridges, weirs and channel bend dynamics within river systems. During my time at Hydrotec I have progressed to Managing Director level as my experience and knowledge base has grown and I am now involved in all aspects of the company, from the general day to day running, preparation of quotes, hydraulic design, CFD and physical modelling, model test rig design, resource programming, team management and marketing. I continue to keep a hand in testing both physical and mathematical modelling applications, in addition to combined physical/mathematical modelling approaches. In addition, I am taking the lead in introducing new technologies into the company, such as improved the 3D CAD systems and 3D printing and scanning, to improve fabrication detail and accuracy, whilst reducing model rig construction costs. This technology has also allowed me to look into incorporating electronic monitoring devices for measurement of pre-swirl rotation in pumping applications, which will provide data logging over sustained periods, allowing both more complex simulations in addition to dynamic test capability.

In addition, we also work in collaboration with several UK based universities and are on the select list for ASHGAL Quatari Water and Sewerage Board.
