About David Rubino

I thrive on the challenge of creating a seamless, intuitive user experience and iterating over time to increase customer satisfaction. As a Senior Product Manager, I’ve developed uncommonly deep experience using customer engagement and feedback, which I’ve channeled into projects such as:• Creating the Microsoft Edge Insider Program, which enabled Microsoft to recruit 200K new users to its new cross-platform browser and reliably test the new Edge before public release. • Crafting a product download experience for Edge that was so successful during pre-release that Microsoft repurposed it for the public launch and saved 100 hours of PM time.• Building the infrastructure for a robust customer engagement system on the Microsoft browser team that prioritized critical issues and integrated user feedback into projects from the start. ► HOW I WORKI’m known for spotting gaps in processes, systems and project plans and taking action to fill them. I see that kind of ambiguity not as intimidating, but as something interesting to move toward. Some of the projects above began as volunteer initiatives, on the side of my usual responsibilities. I’ve also taken on mentorship responsibilities for junior team members, which I truly enjoy because of my own career path through more junior roles. I believe relationships are important, and I make sure to develop relationships among project teams that allow new ideas to emerge and compromise to be reached when it comes time to overcome roadblocks. ► EARLIER EXPERIENCEAdvancing through former roles as a developer and tester, has allowed me to experience – from multiple angles – how software is created across multiple operating systems as well as applications for desktop, mobile, and web. It has also given me experience finding an above-average number of bugs in new software. Those experiences create invaluable perspective in understanding the challenges that new products, programs, and projects may hold. ► PRODUCT MANAGEMENT STRENGTHS• Translating business needs into clear requirements• Communicating across technical and non-technical audiences alike• Organized and flexible work management• User research and customer engagement systems• Technical excellence and attention to detail► CONTACT MEI’m active on LinkedIn and would enjoy connecting with you. Let’s connect!

  • Microsoft
Senior Product Manager - Microsoft Edge Team
    Microsoft Oct 2014 - Jan 2023
    Redmond, Washington, Us
I defined and drove product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the browser team. In addition to developing user stories to communicate product specifications and functionality, I collaborated with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, marketing, and customer support, to identify user needs and prioritize features. I designed and iteratively improved a customer engagement strategy, led user testing and user research to refine UI/UX and address usability issues, and established and tracked key performance indicators (KPIs). KEY ACHIEVEMENTS► Enabled reliable testing of the new, cross-platform Microsoft Edge browser with over 2M downloads in the first three months and 200K engaged users during the year before public release by creating the Microsoft Edge Insider Program. ► Ensured a successful product launch for Edge by noting that the product download experience had not been planned for and proactively building a plan, which was repurposed a year later for the public launch and saved 100 hours of PM time.► Quickly mitigated risk of audit or government action by bringing the Microsoft Edge developer website into compliance with Microsoft standards and readying it for key features supporting Microsoft Edge and the web developer community.► Allowed early customer feedback to be built into processes and toolsets from the beginning of the new Edge implementation in 2015 by volunteering to develop a customer engagement strategy, which the browser team lacked.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS► Prevented defects and saved time by leading the team’s first use of shift-left testing throughout the product design process for Internet Explorer 10, which was regarded as an overall success. ► Alleviated the need for additional management resources by leading a feature crew during the development of IE 10. Mentored both PM and developer counterparts in their roles while leading communication and decision-making. ► Laid the groundwork for a successful first release of the Surface device by representing the IE team to ensure open lines of communication with the corporate-level team and run the test automation suite on the new device while it was still secret.► Achieved an above-average number of fixed bugs, among leaders of the team.
