I had the opportunity to spend several weeks in Germany, from late spring through early summer, to take part in an internship in close co-ordination with a professor from Michigan State University. During the six weeks, I was expected not only to help with the lesson preparations, but also in the leading of the lessons with the students, in a completely German atmosphere. I spent my days either in school, shadowing a German "student-teacher," Manuel Hug, 24, who also gave me room and board in Stuttgart. Certain days, we were required to attend skill workshops, where hundreds of student teachers would break into small groups and further discuss teaching methods. Outside of the actual internship was, of course, the cultural experience gained by living in a major German city, fluent in the language, with a peer adviser guiding me through my six-week adventure.
