Sustainability Services Lead At Ecoact Uk

Business Support Officer @ 'Grow Me The Money' Program
The Grow Me The Money program is a joint EPA Victoria / Victorian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) initiative that aims to encourage and enable small to medium sized businesses and companies (SMEs) in Victoria to become environmentally sustainable by providing technical and logistical support, providing accreditation, facilitating relationships and promoting SME’s achievements to public and peers. This is partly accomplished by GMTM’s multiple step system that members progress through with technical assistance such as measuring environmental KPI’s and creating action plans. The role greatly assisted in developing my client management skills and enhancing my understanding and experience of the various interests and stakeholders influencing business and the sustainability challenges faced by commerce and industry. It also gave me valuable experience in handling multiple tasks within a single position and managing my time effectively.Duties included program development; client management (responsible for and assisted a large number of client members personally assigned to me with their progress through the GMTM program); database management; website admin; web forum, etc.
Projects Officer (Secondment)
3 month secondment (from Grow Me The Money program @ VECCI) to the Environmental Protection Authority - Victoria (EPA Victoria) as a member of their Business Sustainability Unit. I worked with a team on developing funding projects for the Prescribed Industrial Waste (Contaminated Soils) industry as part of EPA's HazWaste Fund initiative. Duties included 'Contaminated Soils' general project development through tasks such as risk analyses, desktop research, client dialogue, site visits, document drafting, etc.In this role I gained further experience of working within the public sector exposing me to the unique political and economic demands of this work setting as well as improving my creative thinking and my negotiation and problem solving skills.
Internship With Sustainability And Strategic Planning Unit
I undertook an internship with the City of Melbourne Council as an integral part of my Monash University dissertation and authored a climate change report on behalf of the Council. I received a High Distinction (First) from Monash for this dissertation project. The project required analysis of Council's emissions reporting systems and strategies at that time and their obligations to the various emissions reporting programs that they were then a party to such as Cities for Climate Protection, the Chicago Climate Exchange, Greenhouse Challenge Plus and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System. The project required dedication and in-depth research, analytical and relationship-building skills. I ultimately authored and delivered a 14,000 word report discussing Council's situation and proposed future policy and actions. Working in this unit at the Council was a fantastic experience as it was a dynamic and exciting workplace with committed staff always willing to provide support and advice during my time there.

My school was Fushiki Senior High School in Toyama Prefecture and I loved every second of my time there.I gained strong creative, teaching, presentation, leadership and interpersonal skills as well as developing cross-cultural understanding and transferable communication and cooperation skills working in a completely new cultural and working environment. I was also elected as the Takaoka Regional Representative for over 40 JET colleagues. In this role I helped solve personal and professional problems of others and delivered advice and encouragement to fellow JETs.
