About David Keller

David Keller, M.D. is Professor of Pediatrics and Vice Chair for Clinical Strategy and Transformation of the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Childrens Hospital Colorado, a newly created position responsible for leading initiatives to improve practice efficiency and effectiveness, developing the capacity of the faculty to provide high-quality care in a population health environment and developing innovative collaborations to improve the health of children in a rapidly changing health care system. Prior to moving to Colorado, he was Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Senior Policy Analyst at Commonwealth Medicine’s Center for Healthcare Policy and Research at UMass Medical School and Associate Medical Director for the Office of Clinical Affairs at Massachusetts Medicaid. He served as Project co-Director of the Rhode Island Chronic Care Sustainability Initiative, on the faculty of the Massachusetts Patient-Centered Medical Home Initiative’s Learning Collaborative and team lead for the evaluation of the Massachusetts CHIPRA Quality Measure Project. From 1991 to 2007, Dr. Keller was Medical Director of South County Pediatrics, a community-based teaching practice and “Medical Home” for children with special health care needs. He was a Physician Advocacy Fellow from 2007 to 2009, working with Health Law Advocates in Massachusetts to pass the Omnibus Children’s Mental Health Act of 2008 and implement the Childrens Behavioral Health Initiaitive. He served as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow in the office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at HHS in 2010. He is Chair of the Board of the Federation of Pediatric Organizations and serves on HRSA’s Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry.Specialties: Primary care pediatrics, children with special health care needs, advocacy training, community pediatrics, patint-centered medical homes

    Provide project management to the Chronic Care Sustainability Initiative for Rhode Island (CSI-RI), one of the country’s first statewide, multi-payer, patient-centered medical home pilots. In addition to improving quality and health outcomes, the CSI-RI pilot was designed to align quality improvement and financial incentives across Rhode Island’s health plans, purchasers, and providers, and enhance the attractiveness of entering into primary care. Starting with five primary care sites were in October of 2007, the project added eight primary sites in 2010 bringing total participation to 79 providers and 70,000 covered lives. CSI-RI is one of eight all- payer patient centered medical home projects nationally to be joined by Medicare as a full participating provider through CMS’ Multi-payer Advanced Primary Care Program (MAPCP) .
