Ster-Kinekor is the leading cinema exhibitor and distributor in South Africa, with close to 70% market share in both businesses. In my role as Marketing Director I reported to the Managing Director and was responsible for the marketing of over 600 cinema screens and all the movies released by Buena Vista International (Disney), Columbia Tri-Star, 20th Century Fox, and most of the major independent studios from Hollywood. The marketing team consisted of more than 20 people who were tasked with growing admissions and successfully launching close to 300 movies per year.Key achievements:Achieved admission growth ahead of the industry average and twice that of our leading competitor every year between 1992 and 1995.Launched a loyalty club which grew to 1 million active members and is still a big contributing factor to Ster-Kinekor's admissions growth. Successfully opened some of the biggest and most modern multiplexes in the world.Worked closely with the studios in Hollywood to release their movies at a rate of 6 per week.
