Over 40 years as an engineering professor and researcher, plus 25 years as a private consultant in aerospace engineering. Author of Modern Flight Dynamics (2012) (formerly published by McGraw-Hill, now by the AIAA), plus over 200 research publications. Performed sponsored research for NASA, USAF, US Army, US Navy, NSF, Dept. of Ed., and several sponsors in the aerospace industry.     Collaborator in an interdisciplinary team of researchers supporting NASA’s Performance Adaptive Aeroelastic Wing (PAAW) Program. The overall PAAW research objective was to develop approaches to increase fuel efficiency of, and reduce emissions from transport aircraft. Our project focused on the reduction of vehicle weight through the use of active controls and multidisciplinary structural design, with validations demonstrated via flight testing. Particular emphasis was placed on flight-dynamic modeling of highly elastic aircraft; active flutter suppression and shape control; multidisciplinary structural design, analysis, and optimization. Validation of the approaches was achieved using several composite electric flying-wing test-bed drones designed during the project.
