I taught in the Cinema Department at Binghamton University—legendary home of such filmmakers at Ken Jacobs, Hollis Frampton, Stan Brakhage, Ernie Gehr, Nicholas Ray, Larry Gottheim, and Vincent Grenier, among others. In the Fall and Spring, I taught the large gateway course "Experience, History, and Analysis of Cinema" along with upper-division courses on specialized topics such as Transcendental Cinema, The Essay Film, Artist Films, and the application of Stanley Cavell's work to contemporary cinema.

In this new position at Cortland, I'm continuing to teach value theory and film, now within the context of a Learning Community, supporting Majors and Minors (at their highest levels in the department's history), and offering an advanced, upper-division class on the representation of war on film.

Teaching courses devoted to learning moral theory through movies in conjunction with seminal works in the history of ethics. Special topics include: the nature and effects of prejudice, discrimination, and systematic oppression; the cultural origins of moral philosophy; theories of individual identity and social ontology; metaethics; and normative ethics.

I have completed a new documentary film on luxury fashion entrepreneur and philanthropist, Brunello Cucinelli. Shot on location in Italy and New York, the film focuses on Cucinelli's unique application of humanistic philosophy in his business practice. The film is an official selection of the New York City International Film Festival and the New York City Independent Film Festival.Two articles I've written on Cucinelli's use of the humanistic tradition have been published in the Journal of Religion and Business Ethics (2014): vol. 3, no. 1.

While in residence at the NYPL, I have written and published three books, and am currently at work on two more. Published books, while in residence, include: The Philosophy of Charlie Kaufman (UP Kentucky 2013), Estimating Emerson: An Anthology of Criticism from Carlyle to Cavell (Bloomsbury 2013), and Emerson's English Traits and the Natural History of Metaphor (Bloomsbury 2013).

I teach in the Program in Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, including the courses "Fiction Film Theory"​ and "Introduction to Film Aesthetics and Analysis."

Working independently and with a team of curators and department heads at AMNH, I helped develop and implement a forum called a "Content Seminar" in which the content for future exhibitions could be usefully explored. The motivation behind the seminar is to create a space for genuine intellectual inquiry among a group of diverse, interdisciplinary scholars and researchers, all of whom aim to discover what is most compelling about a subject proposed for exhibition.

I spent a decade in close collaboration with Liberty Fund, and in the last phase of my work there I was employed as a Coordinating Producer and Consulting Editor for their film series (Intellectual Portraits). I also directed, led discussion, and participated in scores of sponsored educational colloquia, and I served as Scholar-in-Residence from 2005 to 2006.

Traveling Researcher and Writer in England and Scotland.

Taught classes in Philosophy and Rhetoric at Harvard Extension School.

Conducted research for professors Cavell and Bruno and aided them in the assembly and editing of their books.

Worked for the Curator of the Houghton Library, the rare books and manuscripts archive of the Harvard College Library.

Traveled in Italy as a Research-Writer for Let's Go Travel Guide, covering Piemonte, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and parts of the Veneto.
