With more than three decades of experience in the energy sector, David Lawrence recently held the position of executive vice president of exploration and commercial for Shell Upstream Americas. His work with various Shell enterprises has included deepwater, shelf and onshore discoveries, play development and other projects worldwide, including China, Canada, Australia, Nigeria and Brasil, Argentina and Ukraine. Prior to accepting his most recent role with the company, David Lawrence served as executive vice president of global exploration for Royal Dutch Shell in the Netherlands.Before building his career in the energy industry, Mr. Lawrence earned a bachelor of science in geology magna cum laude from Lawrence University. After graduation, he developed hands-on experience in his field as a uranium geologist with Plateau Resources and as a coal geologist with the United States Geological Survey. He eventually returned to school to complete his master of science and doctor of philosophy in geology from Yale University, where he received the Orville and Estwing Awards and a full fellowship. He continues to sit on the Yale Climate and Energy Institute Advisory Board.
