* Directed the Software Department which is tasked with building a suite of enterprise and scientific computing applications in support of the Inline Inspection (ILI) division of TDW. These applications range from business intelligence tools to applications that visualize and measure features within massive amounts of sensor data collected by ILI tools. * Managed a machine learning/classification effort to automatically detect and characterize such features. * Responsible for rearchitecting the overall computing structure of the ILI Division which includes adoption of cloud computing, integration of enterprise software applications, and an environment that supports global distribution of data, computing, and people. The scope of this effort included scientific computing, business support systems, data warehousing, and business intelligence/analytics.

Built and managed the core team that designed, coded and maintained the NLP engine, the application team that built applications on top of that engine, and the tools team that focused on developing knowledge engineering tools. Pioneered information extraction that requires no predefinition and built products that convert massive quantities of text into the rows and columns of standard relational databases where they could be analyzed by business intelligence tools like BusinessObjects, SAS, and SPSS. Developed the first thematic role parser -- a system that identifies who did what to whom, when, where, etc., regardless of how those roles are expressed grammatically -- that convinced In-Q-Tel (the venture capital arm of the Central Intelligence Agency) to lead Attensity’s first round of funding eight months after 9/11. Developed Attensity’s first use of cloud computing to replace an in-house data center. When the level of professional services necessary to implement Attensity software became a concern to some customers, I prototyped an advanced text analytics application to prove that it was possible to deliver a pure SaaS-based voice-of-the-customer solution that required no professional services for implementation, something that was unheard of at the time.Raised four rounds of funding during particularly difficult times for financing. Successfully transferred intellectual property ownership or use rights from the University of Utah to Attensity via the Technology Commercialization Office (TCO). Directed both Attensity and University legal counsels in writing and filing US patent applications, followed up with rebutting examiners‘ comments for a 100% success rate in applications-to-grants. I also spent significant effort and time in creating and maintaining our corporate culture.
