Joined the Platform Analytics team that receives and processes telemetry data from both Elastic's cloud service and installations in the field. Primarily worked on a custom ETL (extract, transform, load) project that loads the data into either Elasticsearch or BigQuery. It allows teams to own the transformation of their own data in a flexible, self-service way.

Took ownership of a critical piece of our CI infrastructure that launches cloud compute in AWS, GCP, or Kubernetes (GKE) as needed by the CI system. Sometimes the Cloud isn't reliable so recently we have improved the resilience of the system by moving the pending work onto a queue and improving how we add work to the queue. This change involved a couple new services, additional monitoring and alerting, and effectively eliminated pages about jobs waiting for compute.

As Area Lead I provided technical leadership on the team responsible for the shared Continuous Integration infrastructure. I was responsible for the technical direction of the team, iterating on our team processes, meeting with our customers, developing some features, and managing the project planning. I led an engineering-wide initiative to replace our legacy system; collected requirements from our customers, evaluated various alternative CI platforms, and designed how the new system might impact engineers throughout the company. I also helped the team adopt new processes to make progress on project work while still providing the ongoing maintenance and support.

Built and maintained internal tooling and infrastructure used throughout the CI and release process. For example, I maintained and extended a tool we built to index all build and test output into Elasticsearch so that we could provide both full text search as well as analytics. A separate service crawled and indexed cloud storage in order to provide developers with easy access to the nightly release candidates for use in their test suites. Additionally, I helped maintain the infrastructure used to provision the VM images used in CI.

Contributed to the core archiving platform. The platform is built on AWS and is distributed across many EC2 nodes, using Clojure, RabbitMQ, ZooKeeper, Oracle OIT, RDS, and other technologies.Worked on a small team to build a scalable service that could add, modify, and search user generated metadata for the millions of documents in the archive. Used Clojure, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, ZooKeeper, and PostgreSQL.Created a utility library to help decouple other services by making use of RabbitMQ topic exchanges to build a flexible pub/sub mechanism with configurable dispatch.Lead the development of our Elasticsearch roadmap and took ownership of related code. Became the point person for all Elasticsearch related questions.Developed a security plan for access to Elasticsearch using Nginx and our in-house user management system.

Helped design, architect, and implement a new user experience prototype utilizing Ruby on Rails, Webhooks, Websockets, and Javascript/Ajax.

Participated in company-wide discussions regarding the creation of a single user interface architecture and visual design.Upgraded the legacy session management mechanism to a more secure session cookie approach.Prototyped a GIS feature where a user could create dynamic groups of recipients based on proximity to a selected point on a map.

Led the complete design and development of a major user interface overhaul. Made heavy use of ExtJS, a rich user interface library. The new UI more than doubled the number of pages, streamlined access to information, and entirely updated the look and feel of the product. In addition to utilizing Ajax and ExtJS on the client side, technologies such as Spring MVC, JSP, several custom JSP taglibs, and data driven code generation were used.Participated in ongoing discussions towards the design and development of a powerful development and deployment platform aimed at powering all Dell Services offerings going forward.Assisted in porting the server components of the product from Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle 10g.Owned development and documentation of an external facing custom HTTP API. Was solely responsible for the complete user interface development effort during several release cycles.Designed and developed a major upgrade to the reporting infrastructure utilizing Ajax and a live-grid/infinite-scroll based UI to successfully reduce initial download and rendering time.Created logging and timing utilities with JavaScript to aid in tuning performance.Implemented a highly configurable, dynamic tree control in Java and JavaScript that utilized Ajax to pull data from the server as needed.
