About David Lee

As a coach, consultant, workshop facilitator, keynote speaker, and author, I love creating a win/win/win relationship between people and the organizations they work for, more specifically:፨ Job seekers and career changers interested in finding work that enables them to use their skills and strengths to the fullest, and that brings them soul-satisfaction.፨ Employees who want to grow professionally--and personally--so they can become a VIP at Work…Valuable, Influential, and Promotable. By doing this, they provide the most value to their employer while growing their career.፨ Employers who recognize that their managers are the key to attracting, retaining, and inspiring talent...and want to help them play their vital role well.PEOPLE I MOST ENJOY HELPING:፨ Young professionals who want to grow their career or discover a career that works for them.፨ Managers who want to become "People Whisperers" - i.e they want to become more skilled at bringing out the best in others (and know they need to start with themselves).፨ High performing individual contributors being developed for future leadership positions.፨ People involved in a job search or career change who care deeply about finding work that is meaningful, and who maybe have felt like “a square peg trying to fit into a round hole” in previous jobs.UNDERPINNING MY WORK ARE THREE GUIDING PRINCIPLES:1. The more you understand human nature, the greater your ability to bring out your Best Self and the greater your ability to bring out the best in others. 2. Every better business result you want requires a better conversation, whether it's with your employees, your colleagues, your board, your customers, or...yourself. In fact I wrote a book on this topic: Dealing with a Difficult Co-Worker: Volume One of the Courageous Conversations at Work series. 3. When people find work that’s right for them, when employees gain knowledge and tools that help them perform at their best, and when employers have managers who are “People Whisperers”…EVERYBODY wins.SPECIALTIES:-Career Coaching...especially when it involves career change and discovering work that works for you-Resilience & navigating change gracefully --both individually and organizationally-Leadership development with a special emphasis on mindfulness, understanding human nature, and leading by example-Having the Courageous Conversations needed to get the results you want. I help job seekers and career changers with all of the foundational elements of an effective job search...and more.★ Resume Writing -- Creating a resume that humans find compelling and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATSs) allow through, so a human CAN read it.★ Linkedin Profile Upgrading - People are more likely to accept your Connect requests and recruiters are more likely to find you, if your profile contains certain key elements, and… if you write it in an engaging way.★ Identifying and Articulating Your Value Proposition - The clearer you are on what you have to offer and how to "connect the dots" between that and what your ideal employer is looking for, the quicker you will find that ideal position. ★ Job Search Strategy – Rather than just respond to job postings and hope someone will get back to you, I’ll show you how to take charge of your job search by working smarter, not harder.★ Interview Preparation - I show job seekers how to tell great stories that answer behavioral interview questions in a fascinating, informative, and memorable way. Even the most senior level executives have commented on how helpful my interview prep process is. I bring principles from marketing, psychology, neuroscience, and storytelling to my work in this area.★ Identifying Strengths, Skills, "Never Agains", and Ideal Workplace Ecosystem -- This enables the job seeker and career changer to get clearer on both what they have to offer and what type of opportunity fits their personality and preferences. While I work with people at all levels of an organization and in all stages of their careers, I especially enjoy working with people in their 20s and 30s who are trying to figure out what career (or next step) would work for them, and with career changers of any age, who want to find soul satisfying work.

I help leaders and leadership teams learn how to become "people whisperers", and by doing so, increase their ability to make their organization THE choice for "A List Talent" and inspire the best in their people. What makes my work different is the unique combination of:1) Translating research on human nature into practical strategies for optimizing employee performance. People tell me they really value this both because it makes learning more fascinating, and it also provides a more believable rationale for managers on their team who are a bit skeptical about the value of doing the things that bring out the best in people.2) Emphasizing and teaching greater Mindfulness. More specifically, when I work with leaders, I focus their attention on how a person in power affects others, and those critical Managerial Moments of Truth that either build--or damage--employee engagement. As part of this, I draw on years of interviews with employees and the stories they've told me about the Managerial Moments of Truth that made them care a little less, that made them a bit less engaged.3) Constructive Conversation Skills & Emotional Safety -- In working with leaders and managers over the years, I've found this skill set is often their Achilles Heel or Weakest Link. More specifically, even some of the smartest, nicest leaders I've worked with, have "shot themselves in the foot" when giving feedback, asking employees for their ideas, and engaging in other crucial conversations. Also, many managers tolerate sub-part performance because they don't know how to have the conversation. Finally, I believe one of the most important--but undeveloped--skills necessary for great leaders to master is the ability to create Emotional Safety. The more Emotional Safety people with less power in the organization feel, the more likely they are to give management feedback that could dramatically improve morale, engagement, process efficiencies, and customer service quality.

I help people:1. Go from "I'm not sure what I want to do next" to having a clear sense of what opportunities are a potential fit for their personality, unique gifts and talents, skill-set, and values.2. Identify the intersection between what they love, what they're great at, and what employers would be the best fit for them.3. Cultivate their ability to communicate the unique value they provide potential employers.4. Identify potential networking and interviewing blind spots that could compromise their job search as well as their "relationship superpowers" to accentuate.
