[PLEASE READ: If you'd like to connect with me, please include a personal note to remind me how I know you or why you think we should connect.]It's almost a cliché to say that a company's data is one of its most valuable assets and yet, it all-too-often remains the case that the gap between data and knowledge remains unbridged because weak data management strategies hinder the ability of key decision makers to put their hands on the data they need when they need it. Even more problematic is a lack of consistency in a company's data landscape wherein data is unnecessarily and inaccurately replicated, resulting in a sea of misinformation which makes it impossible to be certain that executive decision-making is truly based on the most pertinent factors. Moreover, in heavily regulated industries such as financial services, insurance and pharmaceuticals, inefficiencies such as these turn the myriad demands of regulatory reporting into a massive drain on both technology and business resources. I have spent my entire professional life showing organizations how to manage, govern, leverage and protect their data in ways that translate directly into an increased bottom line.I have excellent people skills and am able to broker accord among competing groups. I work to forge partnerships and erase lines between business and technology groups to produce highly effective teams which are empowered to do stellar work and have fun while they're doing it. I bring real-world experience to your Enterprise Data Management, Data Governance or Metadata Management programs and help you develop effective strategies, policies, standards and deployment roadmaps which will make the most of these efforts.I am an industry thought-leader who speaks regularly at conferences online and around the country and who participates in the formulation and establishment of Data Management standards and best practices through my work with the Enterprise Data Management Council.Specialties: Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM), Cloud Data Management Capability Model (CDMC), Enterprise Data Management, Data & Data Management Strategy, Data Governance, Metadata, Data Lineage, Data Architecture, Data Modeling, classical music theory and composition (you might be surprised at the degree to which that leads to out-of-the-box thinking about data and data management!). I also love to make people laugh and to enjoy themselves...whatever they are doing.

Senior Vice President/Senior Enterprise Information ArchitectBank Of America Apr 2011 - Jun 2014Charlotte, Nc, UsAs a senior member of the Enterprise Information Architecture Team reporting to the Chief Data Officer (CDO), I worked closely with executive management in both business and technology. I was responsible for defining Architectural Strategy, Standards, Specifications, Policies and Frameworks for metadata, data provisioning and data quality. I also worked as part of our Data Governance team where I acted as an Enterprise Data Management Subject Matter Expert (SME), authoring many of our standard requirements and providing oversight both in the execution of our policies and standards and in ensuring compliance with federal regulatory mandates. I was particularly focused on the ongoing development of practices which aim to ensure the effective and accurate gathering of a robust and comprehensive set of enterprise-level metadata and data lineage. In addition to specifying strategic direction and reference architectures for such endeavors, I provided guidance to an internal team which was building a flexible, federated metadata repository tool. I established and chaired the FIBO, Ontology & Semantics Center of Interest which co-ordinates groups across the corporation who are interested and/or actively involved in leveraging semantic technologies to facilitate their data management and application development needs.I also represented Bank of America on the Enterprise Data Management Council, a financial industry group working to define standards for the effective management of enterprise data in large financial institutions. See the Organizations section below for more details of my participation on the Council. -

Principal ConsultantKeane, Inc. Mar 2000 - Mar 2009London, United Kingdom , GbI started in this position as an employee of a small, privately held company called Cylogix. Cylogix was acquired by Keane, Inc. in October, 2002 and I continued in the same position. I was the principal designer and technical manager for the development of a globally deployed, web-based facilities management system used by Morgan Stanley to manage construction and maintenance work at all their properties (owned and leased) throughout the world. The system provided a highly configurable workflow engine, budget preparation and tracking, document management, management of vendor agreements (bids, contracts, change orders, etc.), submission, approval and payment of invoices and extensive executive reporting facilities. Implementation of this system decreased average time-to-pay on invoices from as long as 6 months to 15-30 days. Tedious and time-consuming data entry was eliminated by allowing vendors to submit electronic invoices via the internet and the unified project tracking system has allowed for unprecedented control over cost overruns. -
ConsultantMorgan Stanley Mar 2000 - Mar 2009New York, Ny, UsMorgan Stanley was my sole client during my tenure with CyLogix/Keane. Please see my Keane description above for a summary of my accomplishments on this highly successful account. -

Project ManagerDelphi Technology Jul 1998 - Nov 1999Boston, Ma, UsDTI was the vendor of a comprehensive Enterprise Management software package targetted at the medical malpractice insurance industry. Usually, our customers requested extensive modifications to the software. I managed the configuration and development effort for these modifications for a number of our customers. Two other Project Managers and I shared management responsibility for a pool of approximately 120 business analysts, programmers and quality assurance staff. Individual projects typically lasted from 6-months to 2 or more years with budgets ranging from a few hundred thousand dollars to nearly $3,000,000. -
Senior Business AnalystChurch & Dwight Co. Mar 1994 - Jun 1998Ewing, New Jersey, UsWorking with senior management, I designed and supervised the implementation of and then managed the ongoing maintenance and helpdesk for a data warehouse and an Executive Information System which accessed that warehouse. The EIS was used by A&H financial officers to ongoingly track, analyze and project sales, profitability, etc. Also while at C&D, I worked on a team that was customizing SAP R3 with which we were replacing all our then-current mainframe ordering, inventory and invoice tracking systems. The EIS proved to be such an effective tool for profitability analysis that, although C&D's stock had been falling steadily and had, indeed lost about 50% of its value in the preceding two years, once my system was in place, profitability began to turn around within a matter of months and within 5 years, the stock had increased nearly 300%.I started at C&D in March of 1994 as a free-lance consultant and then became a permanent employee in September of 1994. -
Senior ConsultantZyga Corporation Aug 1985 - Feb 1994While a consultant with this small company, I headed up a number of high-efficiency teams which specialized in automation of manual tasks within telecommunications companies (principally AT&T). I wore many hats and, on most projects, served simultaneously as data architect, database manager, project manager, system designer, business analyst and, when needed, programmer. Our innovations over the years typically resulted in a minimum of 2 orders of magnitude increase in both accuracy and efficiency (measured in orders processed, invoices paid, commissions paid, etc. as was appropriate for the work being done).
