My time at Macy's was a huge success in that I learned I love high volume recruiting. Every day I scheduled and conducted over the phone interviews with unique individuals all over the country to fill open positions at Macy's stores. I assisted in new hire onboarding by scheduling training and being the person behind the hiring decisions. I consistently met goals, won competitions, and would suggest working with Macy's recruitment team to anyone interested in human resources.

John R. Tibbott Elementary School

Here I coordinated the staff and participant activities at Bolingbrook Park District's REACH (Recreation Enhances a Child's Health) before and after school program. I was the liaison for the Park District to Tibbot Elementary School and the community. I worked to positively impact the lives of elementary school students by creating outside of the box activities, and I met their parent's needs by providing top quality before & after school care. My staff and I ensured that the students had ample activities, crafts, and opportunities to relax or let out energy. I used my understanding of adolescent behavioral issues to navigate and avoid incidents, gain insights on how to improve REACH, and help students have more positive experiences while being away from home. I assisted in hiring staff capable of these tasks, managed shipments, and kept the facilities safe & clean.

Here I assisted students during lunch and recess. I mitigated issues between students and enabled them to have a fun lunchroom & recess experience. Also, I learned about youth culture to better assist and create activities for students at REACH.

Marklund Hyde Center makes every day possible for those living with profound disabilities. Many of the residents forever change the heart of those they interact with for the better. There is no denying that everyone on staff who effectively managed their time and volunteers donating time were making a positive influence in the lives of others. It was not glamorous, but it was an extremely fulfilling place to work. At Total Quality Logistics, I found customers with shipping needs and truck drivers that could fit those customers' needs. Typically brokers at TQL focus only on domestic FTL or LTL. However, this was before company policy changes and as a broker, I was able to gain experience coordinating drayage shipments as well. I worked with a couple of large freight forwarders, an empty wine barrel craftsman, a popular subscription-based internet retailer, and many other companies. This position was great for developing my "gift of gab"/sales experience and of course the logistics industry. Being a dedicated husband with a passion to help others it was the perfect position for me at the time. I was able to help truck drivers, seek out companies that interest me, and save quite a bit of money for my family. This position helped us purchase our first home. I will always be grateful for that and the friends I made working there.

I worked part time with a team of people early in the morning to load delivery trucks. Following FedEx's system in place, I helped transport packages safely to there spots in a timely manner. This job was a great morning workout. During peak season I took on an Admin position with Quality Assurance. At QA I examined damaged boxes, repackaged properly, and continued to assist in getting packages where they needed to be. Overall, FedEx Ground was an interesting side job where I was able to work with a very diverse team of people. Though challenging, it was fun.

Calabasas, California

Hard work at Jimmy's John's paid off. The previous Jimmy John's store owner offered me a place to live and a job with the Farmer's Insurance District Office in Calabasas, Californias. I assisted with the transition by helping move furniture, dog sitting, providing child care for their grandchildren, cleaning, and filling the role of Director of Agency Acquisition at Farmers Insurance.As Director of Agency Acquisition, I assisted the District Manager by recruiting new agents, compiling reports, and helping clients. Initially, we worked remotely. However after preparations for the physical office in Calabasas were complete, my role became more face to face. I was the first person potential agents and clients would see after walking into the office. Greeting and making visitors feel comfortable was one of my favorite aspect of the job. I loved talking to the person on the phone, scheduling an appointment, and then being able to put a face to the name. I consistently exceeded 400 cold calls per week and kept the calendar full of interviews with potential agents! It was a good position with advancement opportunities.As the year was winding down my fiance accepted a wonderful position with a year-long apprenticeship program in Harrisburg, Pensylvania instead of sunny California. I followed my heart and started working with the District Office to hire my replacements. Overall, the experience away from home was positive. I saw first hand that making a decision is important, but working hard to make that decision the "best" decision is crucial for success. I gained valuable business management insights, developed prospecting skills, appointment setting techniques, and more. .

At CASA I was able to learn more about families in need, mental health, and volunteer retention. I spent numerous hours in family court practicing note taking assisting CASA staff and volunteers. During the semester I planned one volunteer retention event. Assisted in office work. Attended community events on drugs and child advocacy. Shadowed DCS workers, school based case managers, and adult case managers.

Mccutcheon Residence Hall

As an RA, I used my interpersonal skills to comfort and connect with residents who were sometimes living away from home for the first time. I tried to make Purdue a home away from home for my residents by building relationships with and between them. To assist in relationship building I created social and educational programs such as Movie Nights, Euchre Night, Etiquette dinners, and Floor Yoga. Individually creating and collaborating with other RAs to implement these programs helped me develop the skills necessary to lead or help organize programs.

Beijing, Longkou, Nanjing, Guilin, And Shanghai

Traveled to China with Purdue University in a mixed group of Psychology and Human Development & Family Studies students. The main focus of the trip was Child and Youth Development in rural and urban areas of China. We observed day cares, preschools, and primary schools. We also visited historical sites, colleges, and met with college students. Each student kept a daily journal, gathered data on their own chosen topic, presented findings to the entire group, and wrote a research paper. My focus was on the one child policy and how it affects the stress levels of children and college students.

Tarkington Hall

While working at the front office at Tarkington Residence Hall, I was the go to person for student and visitor questions. I assisted in the day to day functions of the front office. I answered phone calls, sorted all incoming mail, assisted in maintaining the computer lab, and kept track of rental items. I utilized customer service and hospitality skills to assure all visitor and student questions were answered or addressed.

I started working in highschool (June 2010) and continued working during college breaks. I worked under the pressure of customers and company policies to make sandwiches quickly. I worked hard to keep the store clean and organized. As a delivery driver and in-shop worker, I saw first hand the important role that good customer service can bring to the atmosphere of a restaurant. Working at Jimmy John's was an extremely fun experience. Most importantly, through my time working there I was positively impacted by two store owners who have helped me to gain insight into the stresses and risks that come with opening a franchise and managing a business.

Donley Safety and Associates is a dealership and service provider for Fire Equipment, Industrial Safety and Law Enforcement in Indiana. Donley Safety was looking for a trustworthy person to help them through the end of the summer by working full time. It was an entry level job where I faced many new challenges. I re-organized the sales department’s customer spreadsheets into one master spreadsheet including all sales people, sales districts, and customers. This made it possible to access all information on one spreadsheet. Also my duties required me to open the office and warehouse, file paper work for packages received and shipped for both Apparatus Services and Donley Saftey, take deliveries, and pick up parts from businesses all around Indianapolis.

Rocky Mountain National Park

A "Sherpa" is essentially a word used by the Summer Field Studies Program for camp counselor, hiking guide, or "person who does what they are told to do with no complaining." As one of only six "Sherpas" on the trip last year, of about 70 students and the rest staff just shy of 100 people total, we had to work as a team pack and unload luggage from the Ryder truck, wake up early to wake students, help serve/prepare all meals at camp, lead students on hikes, clean up camp, and close camp at night making sure all students were following the rules.
