Intra Energy Corporation Limited, is an ASX listed mining company with coal mining and power station operations in East Africa. David held the position of Executive Director for four years from 2011 and oversaw the East African operations of the Group. He had the reasonability of managing the company’s exploration, resources, feasibly assessments, mines design & development, and new project acquisitions. David joined the board of Intra Energy Corporation Limited (IEC:ASX) in early 2011 as Executive Director of Exploration and Project Development. IEC has a suite of coal projects in Tanzania and Malawi, and has developed the Ngaka coal mine in Tanzania and the Nkhachira coal mine in Malawi, supplying thermal coal to regional industrial customers in Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya and Zambia. David reduced the role to a Non-Executive Director in late 2014 to follow other executive roles.

From early 2009 to the end of 2010 David was the Managing Director of Overseas & General Limited (OGL:ASX), an emerging coal mining company focusing on Indonesian and Australian resources. OGL secured a portfolio of coal properties in Indonesia and developed the Jongkang mine in East Kalimantan.

The Minvest Group was acquired by Haddington Resources Limited (HDN:ASX) in 2007, an Australian ASX entity with exploration and mining assets in Australia. David joined Haddington as the Operations Director managing all Haddington’s international projects and working closely with the existing CEO at Board level to ensure strong growth and financial viability of the company. Haddington has a large portfolio of mineral tenements under exploration and development in areas of industrial minerals, coal, iron ore precious metals, base metals, uranium and tantalum. David was involved in all senior corporate roles of the company. David stepped down from Haddington (now Altura, AJM:ASX) in 2009 and pursued the development of his personal mining investments.

In 2000 David established a new Indonesian mining house, Minvest International Corporation, based in Jakarta, as Managing Director. Minvest invested in resource and mining assets and was a consultancy with some 25 professional geologists and engineers. David negotiated the purchase of Binamitra Coal and managed its subsequent mining development and operations. He then expanded Minvest into Australia, as firstly a consultancy and various mining services (IEMS Pty Ltd, Minvest Australia Pty Ltd, RGGA Pty Ltd) including drilling (Belldale Enterprise Pty Ltd), then into acquiring resources properties. David then took Minvest into Madagascar where a number of companies were established and resource projects acquired including coal, lignite, uranium and gold and service entities set up.

David became Swabara Group General Manager in 1997. Swabara held investments in resource properties, mining service businesses, coal mines including Adaro, port facilities and a power station for which David directed and managed the corporate affairs, financing, human resources, marketing and promotion, and new resource and energy projects including in the Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

David Mason became General Manager of PT Asminco Bara Utama in 1994.

David was transferred permanently to Indonesia in 1989 as the Exploration Manager of PT Asminco Bara Utama, a subsidiary of the Swabara Group, an Indonesian entity that had business associations with New Hope.

In late 1986 David returned to Australia to take up a position with New Hope Corporation as the Supervising Geologist for exploration, resource definition and mine feasibility of their Multi Harapan Mine in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Following this, David managed the exploration and feasibility of the substantial Adaro Indonesia Mine in South Kalimantan seeing it into production in 1991. While in Indonesia, David also worked on a number of coal and mineral exploration leases throughout the provinces.

David pursued a consultancy opportunity with Applied Geology Associates in Auckland, New Zealand. His main contribution was the Applied Geology Associates/Tonkin and Taylor/Otto Gold Joint Venture team engaged on the South Island Phase II Lignite Site Selection studies programme (resource definition, geotechnical, hydrological and mine planning studies) for the NZ Liquid Fuels Trust Board. Additionally, David carried out coal exploration in the Upper Waimangaroa and Te Kuha areas of the Buller Coalfield, alluvial gold exploration in a number of West Coast Rivers, epithermal gold exploration in the Coromandals, limestone investigations in the Westport and Greymouth region, and a general study on NZ zeolites.

David spent four years as a project coal geologist with CSR Coal Division, Exploration and Evaluation Group. He was responsible for the exploration and evaluation of several Authorities to Prospect held by Brigalow Mines Pty. Ltd. Joint Venture (CSR 50%, MIM 50%) Surat Basin, QLD. He was part of a technical services team giving geological expertise to operational groups within CSR Coal Division which included Yarrabee, Rolleston, Callide and Collie mines.
