Company Director, Committee Member, And Chair Of The BoardSolarshare Canberra Jul 2019 - Apr 2024Watson, Act, AuSolarShare Community Energy Ltd is an Australian Public Company with 550 shareholders. It was the developer and owner of the largest community solar farm in Australia, supplying Renewable Energy from one megawatt of sun-powered panels at Mount Majura. I added significant value for shareholders from the sale of Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), with actual revenue 186% higher than forecast for the first nine months. Avoided exposure to the voluntary administration of an electricity retailer, through financial/credit analysis of a potential counterparty. Oversaw construction of the solar farm, the first three years of electricity generation, and the payment of two cash distributions to shareholders. Briefly served as a transitionary Chair, a period when the company enhanced Work Health and Safety as well as significantly reducing the cost of Operations & Maintenance. As a Board Member I contributed through the Nomination Committee (recruitment of two CEOs plus four Directors), Chair of the Investment Committee (leading the strategy work and project decisions), undertook due diligence for the selection of equipment vendor Schletter, approval of the Final Investment Decision for the solar farm, and finalising the EPC contract with Epho (now fully owned by AGL). -
Board Member Plus Chair Of The Audit & Risk CommitteeBicycle Nsw Dec 2018 - Dec 2022Sydney Olympic Park, Nsw, AuI’m very proud as Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee to have published the first Annual Report in a decade, with improved accountability to Members and better transparency for all stakeholders (this document is a credit to all of the staff and to the Board). I actively lobbied for a range of governance improvements during the first two years of my tenure, and was extremely pleased to see many of these come to fruition during the third year (these included effective management of conflicts, enhanced transparency, inclusive decision making, sharing of information between Board Members and staff, alignment between management/governance, and clarity of strategic direction)... I was elected by the Members for a three-year term as Board Member, to the largest and strongest advocacy group for all people riding bikes in NSW. Served as Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee during this term, and then continued on the Committee after concluding the board term. Bicycle NSW makes cycling safer, more accessible and more enjoyable for all current cyclists (and for potential bike riders) across the state. I’m very proud that the organisation’s strong balance sheet is being used to expand staff in the core area of cycling advocacy. Bicycle NSW comes out of the pandemic in a stronger position than it went in. During the year to June 2021 Member promotions saw subscriptions increase by 6% (15,000 total Members). The board has tremendously benefited from an influx of new talent in May 2021 (following an open board recruitment process). There is alignment within the organisation, to drive forward cycling advocacy for all bicycle riders in NSW. An experienced and capable CEO joined the organisation, who is empowered with a clarity of strategic thinking that’s significantly better than 2-5 years ago... Ride on!! -

ExpertAustralian Sustainable Finance Initiative Apr 2020 - Nov 2020Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, AuContributed to ASFI as an Expert for Technical Working Group 1 (Mobilising capital to deliver on our sustainability challenges and opportunities), and helped to develop the Roadmap. I wrote a section of the Final Report and drafted two of the 37 Recommendations. The Recommendations on well-being and externalities, as well as the economics content, build on my LinkedIn Articles from April 2020. The final report also showcases the SolarShare project (of which I am a Non-Executive Director), in the case study on Community Investment.ASFI was launched in July 2019 and aimed to set out an Australian Sustainable Finance Roadmap, for realigning the finance sector to support greater social, environmental and economic outcomes for the country. There were over 140 people involved from more than 80 organisations (across banking, investments and insurance). It was a truly inclusive and collaborative effort. No other country has tried to write a Sustainable Finance Roadmap as a bottom-up and industry-led process. I love that the participants fully took ownership of the challenges, mapping viable paths forward in so many directions (not simply a wish list that is sent to governments). -
