Extensive field testing and data analysis was required to determine and isolate the root noise source. - Eliminated a premature wear problem on coal railcar couplers by recommending a harder material for a pin support plated based upon the data analysis from field stress measurements. Project required extensive field design changes to adapt the test equipment to survive the field conditions while gathering and recording credible data.- Performed a 14 day emergency started up on standby power plant to re-stabilize the local power grid and increased plant power output by 58%. A normal plant start up would take 6-8 weeks.
Provide mechanical engineering and technical support of design projects at new and existing nuclear, fossil and hydro electric generating facilities. - Developed technical details for conceptual design of various types of cogeneration plants using GateCycle computer modeling software. - Upgraded the precision cooling system and sealed up the computer room for the technical support area and the simulator building at the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant.- Determined the root cause and recommended a make-up air solution that eliminated the cold weather chimney effect in a 10 story power plant facility which was having a negative impact on personnel and daily plant operations.- Designed, installed and started up numerous black start back-up diesel engine electric generating facilities including cogeneration applications using engine coolant as a back-up heat source.
- Provide technical support for the maintenance and operation of a 4 unit coal-fired power plant.- Analyzed technical data and made recommendations to optimize individual unit performance.- Supervised power dispatching with other utilities including short and long term power transactions through transmission system interconnections.- Started up and maintained a system control and data acquisition (SCADA) computer system.
- Performed design engineering for plant betterment retrofit projects at multiple coal-fired power plants.- Performed results engineering at 2 large coal-fired power plants (400 Mw & 1600 Mw) to solve operating and maintenance problems.
