As the Vice President Engineering, I am the chief technology leader for Bloomfire, providing both strategic senior leadership as well as tactical week-to-week planning and prioritization. I work closely with product, client success, marketing, sales, and the executive team to align our technological strategy with the company's larger business needs, helping to craft a roadmap that delivers the maximum value to customers as well as our investors. It is then my responsible to ensure the timely and quality delivery of our roadmap items as well as other customer reported issues and work requests. I also manage the entire team of engineers at Bloomfire and provide mentorship as well as career development for each member.As Chief Software Architect I am ultimately responsible for the architectural design of our product, ensuring scalability, reduction of technical debt, and increased velocity. This is done in collaboration with the entire team as every engineer at Bloomfire is empowered to take ownership of our product and ensure its continued success. I also continue to be a principal contributor to both our back-end codebase as well as to systems/infrastructure administration.

Senior engineer on the UI team which, in addition to building and maintain the rails-based user interface for the StrongBox product, was also responsible for all of the rest of the systems infrastructure and background processing that facilitated much of StrongBox's featureset. In addition I was the team expert in ActiveMQ (the central communication bus for StrongBox) and was instrumental in scaling the replication and recall functionality from a maximum of 10 paired machines to 100+.Another project that was of significance was a greenfield integration with a 3rd-party tape vaulting company in which we implemented a highly complex workflow engine within the StrongBox product. I was a lead engineer on this project and worked in all phases of the project from design, to implementation, to QA.Also at Crossroads, I made vast improvements in devops for the team, providing a mechanism for use of Git alongside SVN as well as re-architecting our build infrastructure and process. I was a key advocate for code reviews and was sought out by the rest of the team for my feedback.While at Crossroads I wrote code mostly in Ruby but frequently coded also in Java, C, C++, and even some Clojure.

I spent 9 years at ePublishing (originally Chaffee::Interactive) doing everything any anything that needed to be done. I spent the majority of that time writing server-side Java code for web applications tailored toward the publishing industry (mostly magazines) as well as for real estate and title. I wore many hats during that time including senior engineer, dev manager, systems administrator, and finally Senior VP of Software Engineering. I was an architect on the team that transitioned our company from a service company into a product company. I later oversaw our transition from a Java/J2EE and svn-based company to Ruby/Rails and git. I architected the Rails engine used to productize the front-end of our application and reduce the time to site completion by an order of magnitude.

At Acxiom I was on the tools team for Tier 2 customer support for one of Acxiom's flagship products. My first main project while still an intern in college was to write a Time Tracker application for managing time spent per customer. This was written in Cold Fusion as were the rest of the team's tools. I later paired on a complex configuration file management solution that allowed our support team to have instant visibility to the state of the large server farm running the product. This was written in a combination of Perl and Java. While at Acxiom I learned both Perl and Java as well as improved my Linux skills considerably.
