Currently at Birkbeck, University of London as Data Protection Officer 0.5FTE and Research Data Support Manager 0.5FTE. I have worked in various roles at different universities in the UK, building my experience and skills along the way. My new DPO role will build on my GDPR training and experience from research support. At the University of Glasgow I was in Registry (exams, IT support), Research Strategy and Innovation, and the library. At University of East London, I was in the Library as the Research Data Management Officer. I have experience of setting up research support service, including designing repository specification, research data management support, data protection, ethics processes, staff and student training (in person and online), general library support, the creation of training materials (and recordings), and more. I’m also part of the group who run the mysterious/alluring LARD network… Happy to talk at events/conferences, or mentor those new to RDM roles.

    I worked at worked initially on the JISC funded Cerif4Data project. This involved liaising with other universities involved, constructing prototype eprint repositories to test plugins, and building a data repository. I learned a great amount in my time at Glasgow, in particular Valerie McCutcheon and William Nixon helped me to learn about repository management and the research process. I was very lucky to be able to attend events all over the UK and in mainland Europe, which was fantastic for gaining knowledge of how technology, policy and researchers themselves are influencing and changing the research process.
