I graduated from Northeastern University with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, focusing on developing biologically synthesized nanomaterials as therapeutics to fight antimicrobial resistance to antibiotics (AMR) and chemotherapy-resistant tumors. I have a strong background in chemistry, nanotechnology, microbiology, cell biology, and oligonucleotide non-viral delivery for therapeutic applications. For the last couple of years, I have been developing novel non-viral platforms for the delivery of human artificial chromosomes (HAC) for the development of gene editing tools, and involved in the mechanistic and biochemical optimization of tRNA therapeutics for the treatment of rare diseases. I am also skilled in the entrepreneurship world: I am the founder of The Green Chemistry Lab, an independent research division within my old University lab, which became an incubator of ideas for the foundation of different startups: SynCell Biotechnology, a therapeutics company based on the use of selenium nanoparticles produced by pathogenic bacteria as antimicrobials; Nanolyx Inc, a materials science startup working with antimicrobial nanocoatings; and Novaurum Biosciences, a Medtech startup working on the use of human-cell derived nanocoatings for antimicrobial applications on implants. I have also been mentoring different startups over the years for different programs (e.g., MIT Solve, Nucleate, NEU,…) and helping founders to navigate the main problems of an early-stage company in the biotech/Medtech world. On the other hand, my passion does not end with research, as I am also skilled in leadership, management, and finances, with years of experience as a board member, CFO, and treasurer of a national scientific nonprofit (ECUSA).Craving knowledge and a will to learn, my path is always directed to help scientists, students, and entrepreneurs by any mean possible, either through research to develop quick solutions available to anyone or using community-related tasks to bring people and science together.

Graduate Research And Teaching AssistantNortheastern University Oct 2017 - Dec 2020Boston, Ma, UsAs a graduate research assistant, my research has been focused on the use of Green Chemistry in the Nanomedicine field. The main scope of the study has been the development of alternative and biological-like methods for the environmentally-safe, cost-effective and quick generation of nanomaterials -from nanowires to nanoparticles- for biomedical applications, from anticancer therapies to inhibition of growth in bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. The work was focused on metallic nanoparticles, mainly selenium (Se) and tellurium (Te)-based nanomaterials, as well as common ones as silver, platinum, gold or alloys of them. The green chemistry approaches I have been developing are based on generation of nanomaterials using living bacteria (as Escherichia coli or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), human cells (as Human Dermal Fibroblasts or Melanoma cells), dietary compounds that you can easily found in your fridge (as tea, coffee, honey or orange juices), plant extracts (as Aloe Vera), environmentally-safe hydrothermal approaches using just water as solvent, fungi-mediated synthesis, viral-like nanostructures and waste material (such as residues from oil industry). All the projects have been developed in the laboratory or through international collaborations with Spain, South America, and the US. As a teaching assistant, I have been involved in classes related to working processes in Chemical Engineering and Transport Phenomena, working with the lead professors to monitor the class schedule and homework/exams, assisting professors with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment, revising lesson material with students individually or in small groups and so on. -
FounderThe Green Chemistry Lab Sep 2017 - Nov 2020The Green Chemistry Lab was born as a platform to explore the limits beyond green nanotechnology and understand the mechanisms underlying the use of biologically-synthesized nanomaterials as powerful biomedical and environmental tools. Our research aims to understand the concepts and mechanisms which underly the complexities of the point where nature meets the nanoscale. We use advanced research techniques and technologies to explore and investigate the scientific hypotheses in terms of developing novel and revolutionary nanostructures with both biomedical and environmental properties. We show to the world the solution that can overcome the limitations of traditional synthesis of nanoparticles, employing green protocols and methods with no production of toxic by-product and environmentally-safe reactions. Our research is generously supported by funding from the government and several foundations, as well as the Chemical Engineering Department at Northeastern University (Boston, MA), and developed within the facilities of Webster's Nanomedicine Lab -

Research AssistantInstitute Of Chemical Catalysis Jun 2016 - Oct 2016I was working during the summer in the Institute, accomplishing several works related to the atomefficient Synthesis of Fine Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals under the supervision of Prof. Kai C. Hultzsch. The Hultzsch group is engaged in the development of new catalytic synthetic methods for the production of industrial relevant fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Important goals are the efficient conversion of starting materials to the desired products, in particular with respect to chemo-, regio- and stereoselectivity.Nitrogen-containing compounds, such as amines, enamines, and imines are valuable and commercially important bulk chemicals, specialty chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Classical methods for the synthesis of amines, either on laboratory or industrial scale, generally require multiple steps involving refined starting materials. The hydroamination and hydroaminoalkylation reactions represent two new promising alternative approaches for the atom-economical synthesis of these valuable products in an environmentally benign, waste-free fashion directly from simple alkenes. The Hultzsch group has developed a series of chiral catalyst systems based on early transition metals (e.g. Zr, Ta) and rare earth metals (e.g. Sc, Y, La, Lu) for the hydroamination reaction. For example, 3,3‘-substituted binaphtholate rare earth metal complexes catalyze the intramolecular hydroamination of aminoalkenes with enantiomeric excess exceeding 90% ee.
