I teach guitar and songwriting in West Philly, with balanced emphases on emotional expression and virtuosic technique. My guitar heroes—especially Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and Prince—used their technique to convey their deepest emotions, and I focus on helping my students express their inner depths at the very highest level.In my previous career I was a writer and literary critic and the owner of an editing business, with nearly three decades in print. I specialized in the Classics, Biblical and Religious Literature, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Modern Literature since Shakespeare, and Modernism/Postmodernism. I am also an academically published Kafka scholar. This literary background helps me find the right words and contexts as I explain music history and practice to my students.
