California Safe Soil, LLC. (“CSS” or the “Company”) converts leftover food from supermarkets (“Residuals”) into a low cost, high quality soil amendment product for agricultural use called H2H harvest-to-harvest™. CSS holds an exclusive license for the patented technology to collect, process and distribute H2H™ in the state of California, the number one market in the US, by many measures.The process involves collecting Residuals from supermarkets after their “sell-by” date, but while they are still fresh. The Residuals are transported for processing to a centrally located warehouse, to minimize transportation costs. At the warehouse, Residual inventories are stored in a refrigerated area until they are ready to be ground up and placed in large, heated blending vats. Enzymes are added to the vats to digest the ground Residuals, converting proteins, complex carbohydrates and fats into amino acids, simple sugars and lipids. The finished product is a liquid food hydrolysate, which is screened, stabilized and stored. The entire batch process takes 2-3 hours to complete.H2H™ can be distributed for various agricultural applications, where it is diluted with water and applied to soil. The food hydrolysate feeds the “Soil Food Web,” the complex of bacteria, protozoa, fungi, nematodes (worms) and insects that live in the soil. The detritus from feeding the Soil Food Web feeds the plants growing in the soil, and builds soil humus (organic content). The net result is an improvement in both soil health and plant health, reducing the need for inorganic fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides, with a corresponding reduction in the “run-off” of these chemicals into the watershed. Increasing the organic content of the soil helps soil retain water, further reducing “run-off,” soil erosion and water use.
