Opinions are my own. David Reiner joined the Princeton University Office of State Affairs as Assistant Vice President in 2023. In overseeing the office, David has primary responsibility for developing and implementing strategies for representing the University at the state level, and for maintaining relationships with state government officials, legislators and staff, policy and opinion leaders, advocacy and trade organizations, and others. Before joining Princeton University, David served as Executive Director for State Government Affairs at Quest Diagnostics, driving advocacy and engagement in state capitals across the country. David previously worked in New Jersey state government for eight years in various roles, including serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Cabinet Liaison in the Governor’s Office, where he spearheaded multiple state programs and initiatives focused on combating the opioid epidemic. David currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Princeton-Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trustees of the NJ State Museum Foundation. He is also actively involved at William Paterson University, volunteering as a mentor through the Pesce Family Mentoring Institute and as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. A licensed attorney, David graduated from William Paterson University magna cum laude and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers Law School.Organizational and Program Leadership – Headed up team that spearheaded and managed several addiction recovery initiatives and large-scale outreach campaigns, including multi-million dollar “ReachNJ” campaign, still in use. Capability Building – Built Quest Diagnostics’ state government affairs department, growing in-house team and external consultants, and driving public policy, resulting in passage and defeat of dozens of bills and regulations across the country.Strategic Solutioning – Crafted Quest’s government relations agenda for COVID-19 response; conceived multi-state opioid epidemic educational initiative; established Quest as thought leader and secured legislation/regulations establishing drug testing guidelines.Operational Improvement – Reformed NJ’s Superstorm Sandy recovery operations, leading to thousands of people getting grant funding and additional support to rebuild their homes and businesses.Creative Problem Solving – Conceived and implemented city/state/non-profit/corporate partnership for creation of “virtual supermarket” to combat food deserts in Camden.
