Focused on the Western U.S., project development and natural resource sectors, I serve as senior advisor to Scarlet Oak Strategies, a 50-state public affairs, strategic communications and campaign firm based in Washington, DC.

As Managing Director, I led the firm's portfolio of state-based clients with interests in California and the Pacific Northwest, while also directing advocacy and public affairs efforts across the U.S.

With offices in 13 Western states and Washington, D.C., Strategies 360 is a leading public affairs, communications and research firm. In this role, I led firm’s public affairs practice across the West. I spearheaded public affairs strategy for prominent clients locally and nationally helping to secure significant public and political support to achieve strategic outcomes.

As VP of policy and communications, I developed and executed public affairs, government relations and communications strategies to deliver results in challenging public policy environments.

Led corporate communications and public policy development to achieve objectives for a publicly traded renewable oil and biotechnology company. Responsible for strategy and execution of communications and marketing initiatives, stakeholder outreach and government relations. Drove major, break-through media and digital communications campaigns to reach consumers and overcome barriers, including nongovernmental organization opposition, while leveraging outside agencies and partners. Developed preemptive measures for crisis communication and led the company’s response.Oversaw day-to-day operations for communications for business-to-business and business-to-consumer product launches, including strategic relationships to support, validate and amplify launches. Acted as central resource for communications among company leadership, business units and sales teams. Supported internal communications and marketing strategies.

Managed multiple high-profile accounts and staff members to achieve results in challenging political and media environments. Clients include national and state advocacy associations, foundations and non-profits. Responsible for the strategic execution of comprehensive communications campaigns. Drive proactive and day-to-day crisis-communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement and grantees media support. Advised clients on political processes and outcomes related to regulatory, legislative and policy changes.Responsible for the development of new business opportunities within the cleantech, energy, technology, education access and political sectors. Negotiate contracts to grow and expand business.

Launched a consulting practice during UC Berkeley graduate school. Developed and spearheaded public and media relations campaigns to advance client objectives. Oversaw stakeholder outreach and coalition building for clients on topics ranging from community and renewable energy development, sustainability and cleantech as well as efforts focused on regulatory and legislative proceedings. Authored policy and position papers, issue briefs and research papers focused on climate and alternative energy.

Senior advisor on policy, outreach and communications strategy within Governor's OSE. Responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic communications program – targeting media, stakeholder groups and the public – to advance the Governor’s policy and legislative initiatives. Served as spokesperson to news media for day-to-day and crisis communications management. Oversaw statewide communications campaigns, stakeholder advocacy and grassroots engagement to support the Governor’s policy goals.

Engaged stakeholders and key constituencies to implement the Governor’s policy and legislative objectives on initiatives including AB 32 climate action, political reform, education, water and healthcare reform. Oversaw coalition and grassroots campaign development as well as stakeholder rapid-response communications. Served as the liaison between the Governor’s Office, legislative leaders and state and federal government agencies. Oversaw the daily operations of the Governor’s five field offices and staff of 20 full-time employees.

Supervised a unit of 15 full-time employees serving as the public face of the Governor’s Office. Generated responses for constituent inquiries directed to the Governor related to policy and legislation.

Supervised firefighters under incident command structure for wildfire suppression and related activities. Cleared brush and trees (up to 24") on direct attack using a Stihl 440 or pulaski. Responsible for interfacing with the public and local stakeholders related to incidents.
