I have extensive experience in the fields of environmental geology and hydrogeology. I have a broad, interdisciplinary educational background, and enjoy the challenges of applying that education and experience for developing the detailed understanding of site geology and hydrogeology required to select and design appropriate remedial options. Careful consideration of site geology is essential for the successful characterization and remediation at any and all sites. The challenge posed in developing understanding of complex field settings offers great rewards to me, as does addressing the additional complexities that can arise from other confounding constraints on site remediation. I have the knowledge and experience to know when a given technology is likely to fail and why that is so. I have the skills to convey that understanding to clients and regulators in a comprehensible manner. I also enjoy developing new techniques for modeling and interpreting contaminant behavior and publishing the results of such development.

Developed a detailed conceptual site model in a glacial lake setting including deltaic deposition and tidal influences, Developed an innovative technique to extrapolate hydraulic conductivity data based on simplified geologic modeling, and created a new analytical model for temperature-dependent biodegradation for incorporation into a 2-D analytical transport model- Salvaged data from a 21-day aquifer study including a 5-day pumping test in tight formation by applying water level modeling to remove effects of tidal influences and heavy rainfall events that overwhelmed the pumping results. Data analysis demonstrated tidal confinement of contamination. Additional analysis supported natural attenuation of chlorinated solvent contaminants coupled with BTEX in a deeper zone and concomitant hydraulic control due to tidal cycles.- Designed and implemented a five-well SVE system with de-watering pumps controlled by transducers. Made the automatic control possible by recognizing the reference pressure for the transducers had to be within the well, i.e., the vacuum pressure. The system recovered between 152 and 162 kg of BTEX in 8 months and allowed site closure. Recognized that failure of ISCO at the site had been due to insufficient geological characterization and incorrect interpretation of dissolved iron concentrations, allowing development of remedial approach.- Maximized the value of characterization data in fractured bedrock geology at a dry cleaner site by correlating PID readings with laboratory analyses making detailed concentration profiles possible.- Delivered presentations at national groundwater conferences and published papers on the role of dynamic surface chemistry in DNAPL mobility in porous and fractured media Show less
