• Conduct and lead fundamental science research using integrated biochemical and biophysical approaches to develop mechanistic understanding of enzymes involved in energy catalysis (U.S. Dept. of Energy Basic Energy Sciences project). • Carry out structure-function protein research studies aimed at defining structural determinants for redox catalysis to advance molecular mechanisms for energy transformation reactions (Biological Electron Transfer and Catalysis Research Center, a U.S. Dept. of Energy seven institution Frontiers Research Center). • Designated Area Representative for the Spin Resonance Facility: coordinate site-specific training, facilities work, equipment installations, modifications, repair, and maintenance; promote safe research activities by serving as the primary point of contact between EH&S, researchers, facilities management, and visitors. • Contribute to research proposal development and writing for multiple U.S. Dept. of Energy projects.• Supervise undergraduate and graduate students during research internships.

• Carried out integrated biochemical, spectroscopic, x-ray crystallography studies on the chemistry of redox centers of enzymes involved in small molecular energy transformation reactions. • Supervised undergraduate and graduate students during research internships.• Co-PI on a research proposal providing access to a U.S. Dept. of Energy Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource facility for x-ray crystallography studies.• Developed practical expertise in molecular biology, protein expression, purification, and chromatography, anaerobic lab techniques, UV-Vis, EPR, and FTIR spectroscopies, and x-ray crystallography.
