Mar 2020 - Dec 2021

Director Of Programming

Wayzata, Minnesota, Us

Craftsy.com was a TVOD (Transactional Video On Demand) video website where crafting classes could be purchased. In 2018, Craftsy was purchased by NBCUniversal and rebranded as Bluprint in July 2018 (an SVOD - Subscription Video On Demand, like Netflix). I was brought in to head up the development and production of new content that went beyond the traditional content Craftsy previously such as quilting and knitting. Leading by example and inspiring a small team to do their best work, I created a brand new category of content for Creative Writing. Additionally, I built out a thriving new category of Family & Kids content, some of Bluprint's most striking and creative content to date. Finally, I refreshed the stalled Art category by bringing in new talent and modern and relevant projects. Through my passion for storytelling and the highest quality video content, I was able to help lift Bluprint grow from being a simple TVOD crafting company to a fully realized subscription based website for all things creative—a totally unique Netflix for doing. As someone who enjoys a challenge, I eagerly took on dozens of complex projects such as organizing creative summits with Universal Kids in New York to better collaborate on kids and family content. As a self starter, I single handedly began a "techniques initiative" at Bluprint as a new way to share educational content with our subscribers which was then broadened into a company-wide, cross-functional initiative. I created new ways to reuse old content by repackaging it and making it fresh again. Finally, I was able to use my TV writing experience to script a hour-long food show for Bravo linear called "Six Eats" built from Bluprint content. In all of these projects, I used my leadership, project management, and storytelling skills to create great content and drive new subscribers for Bluprint.UPDATE JULY 2020: NBCU has sold Bluprint and restored the Craftsy brand.

Mar 2018 - May 2019

Director Of Development

Denver, Co, Us

Citizen Pictures is a full service television production company responsible for Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives and other content for Food Network, Cooking Channel, Destination America, Discovery, and Bravo among others. As Director of Development, I sought out new talent, developed shows, built pitch decks, pitched shows to networks, created sizzles and proofs of concept, developed relationships with networks and agents, and attended ReelScreen to network. Developing new shows required deep knowledge of the television landscape as well as a gut-level instinct for formats that would work. One show that I'm proud of was Food Network's "Triple D Nation" which featured Guy Fieri returning to some of the restraints he visited before to see how bright lights of Dinners, Drive-Ins & Dives changed their restaurant and what they are serving now.

Mar 2016 - Nov 2017

Development Writer-Producer

Various

After honing my storytelling skills both on set and in the edit bay as a Writer/Story Producer, I started working with the development team at High Noon to develop, pitch, write and sell reality and documentary based TV shows. I realized I had a true passion for developing new shows and searching for that needle in the haystack talent to create a new hit TV show around.I developed instrumental development skills that complimented my storytelling instincts. I learned to cast for nonfiction television and record and cut casting videos. I developed new formats and helped produce sizzle reels for new shows. After getting my feet wet at High Noon, I later did development producing for on a freelance basis as well as for companies such as Everwise Entertainment, Core Entertainment Group, and Citizen Pictures.

2014 - 2016 ~2 yrs

Nonfiction Tv Writer-Producer

Freelance

Writing and producing requires intense organizational skills matched with innate storytelling skills and a gut instinct on how to produce the best moment, both on set and in the editing bay. To succeed, I learned to manage and inspire large crews to do their best and most creative work and make strong, decisive decisions. After six years working at talent management companies and on set in the production and art departments on nationwide television commercials in Los Angeles, I returned to Denver. Fortunately, Denver had a thriving nonfiction Television business and I quickly found work at High Noon Entertainment. At High Noon, I started as an Associate Producer on several DIY Network shows such as Cool Tools, Deconstruction, and DIY Dominator. In these roles, I learned the ins and out of developing segments and shows, organizing shoots, and production management. I also began to write and produce segments. In this process, I learned to edit on both Avid and Adobe Premiere. After a few years as an Associate Producer, I began to find work as a Writer (often credited as a "Story Producer") or Producer (or sometimes both) on shows such as Animal Planet's Dr. Dee Alaska Vet, Travel Channel's Xtreme Water Parks, Reelz Channel's Polka Kings and Branson Cab, Destination America's Pit Masters, and Outdoor Channel's Alaska Wild Gourmet. I branched out from High Noon and began taking jobs with Denver's Orion Entertainment (Now Dorsey Productions) and Citizen Pictures as well and further honed my storytelling skills.

2008 - 2016 ~8 yrs

Narrative Film Writer-Director

Freelance

I am passionate about storytelling in all forms, but perhaps my favorite form is the narrative film. I have written feature films and tv scripts for as long as I could tell a story. My favorite genres are biopics, political satire, comedy, and indie dramas.A film I co-wrote "In/Significant Others" won best screenplay at the 2010 Boston Film Festival. In 2014, I directed a short film titled Ten Minutes Dead that played locally and is well rated on IMDB. Most recently my screenplay Misunderestimated about the early life of George W. Bush was a finalist in the TrackingB Feature Film Contest. For narrative film/TV, I am represented by Management 360 in Los Angeles.

2005 - 2016 ~11 yrs

Commercial Director

Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Us

In the winter and spring of 2013, I took a directing assignment from Tipping Point Solutions to write and direct a series 60-second TV commercials that would air on the in-house U.S. Army television channels. The goal of the project was a video awareness campaign to promote the U.S. Army TRADOC Culture Center. I worked closely with U.S. Army representatives to develop and write the spots. We shot on-site for two weeks at Fort Huachuca in Arizona with the co-operation of the U.S. Army. The completed campaign was a tremendous success and won a W3 award in the Online Media Campaign category.

Denver, Colorado, Us

I love storytelling and especially telling stories for the screen.
