I was involved in the development of the process, development of procedures and reference guides, training the Maintenance Analyst’s, supporting the systems, and monitoring progress and benefits. The SBM approach focussed strongly on Strategy selection based on Whole of Life Cost. In house developed software was used to analyse plant criticality, store failure mode data, and perform cost based frequency optimisation of tasks. I was instrumental in interfacing these systems with BHP’s Maintenance system, speeding failure data collection and plan implementation, and then extending failure data usage to provide for Zero Based Maintenance Budget development.
