Realizing the huge potential of online learning in 2014, David Newbery created NSCAA eLearning program with the support of Ian Barker (Director of Coaching Education) and Tony DiCicco (SoccerPlus). During 8 year period, we delivered a series of 'live' learning opportunities including: Special Topics Diplomas, Coaching Diploma's, Conferences and On-demand content. Revenue surpassed $1m in 2019 - mostly profit.

Newbery and DiCicco pioneered a club assessment model (circa 2008) with youth clubs in New England. In 2010, NSCAA asked Newbery to implement his assessment model and lead an international project - the 'Club Standards Project' - an assessment process and initiative to raise the performance of players, coaches and the clubs - one club at a time! Before the program was furloughed in 2018, Newbery and team had collected data from over 2000 youth clubs and evaluated over 100.

Newbery relocated to North Phoenix to spearhead a small club, Arizona Revolution, with grand aspirations. It quickly became clear that the club's recruitment efforts could gain traction with greater visibility and a stronger brand identity. Newbery facilitated the transition and integration with Phoenix Rising in 2020, paving the way for a move to a larger, well-established club franchise in Phoenix.

Reporting to the owners of USG, The Del Biaggio Trust (Boots and Kristen Del Biaggio), I was responsible for the management and operation of Universal Sports Group. I performed the roles and duties that cover many aspects of the company's business operations during start-up, including product development, client consultancy and management, oversight of training and education and implementation of USG Soccer's long term player development model. Duties also include:Determination and formulation of policies and business strategies to guide the overall direction of company.Direct and coordinate the organization's financial and budget activities in order to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiencyAppointment and direction of advisory panel of sports science specialists to assure optimization of athletic and educational objectives of company. Evaluate performance of USG and its staff in meeting objectives, and to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or strategic directionPlanning, direction and development of a staffing structure to ensure the successful and safe running of the athletic and educational services that are the key element of the company's business.

As a part of both the Executive and Senior Management teams, I engaged closely with department heads to establish a framework and guidance for all business operations, collaborating with them to formulate and execute long-term strategies. Alongside the CEO, I held responsibility for executing the strategic plan and offering leadership and oversight to corporate departments and staff.
