Applications Engineer / ConsultantAgilent Technologies (Formerly Hewlett-Packard) Eesof Division 1998 - 2009Santa Clara, Ca, UsThe EEsof division of Agilent Technologies (formerly Hewlett-Packard Test & Measurement) is a leading supplier of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software for high-frequency system, circuit, and modeling applications. I developed applications for EEsof's Advanced Design System (ADS) product for RF, microwave, and high-speed digital design:Made customized ADS versions of IBM’s Foundry Process Design Kits (PDKs) for several generations of IBM Silicon-Germanium (SiGe) CMOS and BiCMOS processes. These ADS PDKs worked with Cadence using either EEsof’s Dynamic Link or RF Design Environment (RFDE).Designed, developed, and tested original ADS PDKs for WIN Semiconductor’s GaAs pHEMT and HBT processes. Developed Application Extension Language (AEL) macros for full front-end to back-end schematic simulation and layout art generation with DRC. These PDKs were adopted for use by several of WIN’s ADS customers. Implemented DRC for an ADS PDK for Cree Inc’s gallium nitride (GaN) process.Analyzed Measurement Expressions and Variable Equations for EEsof's Advanced Design System (ADS). -
Iv&V Systems EngineerGrc International, Inc. (Founded As General Research Corp; Now Part Of Att) 1991 - 1997Dallas, Tx, UsGRC International, now a part of AT&T Corporation, provided professional and technical services to the Department of Defense. The services provided included systems research and analysis, information systems, operations analysis, testing and evaluation, systems engineering, economic modeling, cost estimating, applied physics, data processing, software development, military system effectiveness and personnel management. Space Based Infra Red Systems (SBIRS): Developed tactical parameter estimation algorithms for tracking missile launches from exhaust plumes in the atmosphere. Reverse engineered Aerojet’s ALERT System, written in Ada Language. Documented the algorithms in a Technical Operations Report. Granted Outstanding Contribution award for performance on project.Follow-On Early Warning System (FEWS): Consultant to the U.S. Air Force evaluating contractor performance (Lockheed vs. Grumman) via Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V). Developed models for Infra Red simulation of missile launch scenarios with cloud background, including target persistence phenomenology, as well as 2D and 3D tracking and tactical parameter estimation algorithms and for evaluating the existing satellite data tracking algorithms.Telephony simulation and analysis: Designed C/C++ functions in the development of Network VUE, a graphical simulation and analysis tool for wide area telephone networks. -
Mission AnalystNorthrop Aircraft Division 1988 - 1990Falls Church, Va, UsNorthrop Corporation Aircraft Division supplied piloted aircraft as well as Unmanned Airborne Vehicle (UAV) systems, aka Remote Piloted Vehicles (RPV) to the U.S. Navy and Air Force. One such RPV program was a Small Loitering Attack Missile (SLAM) system designed to support the Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) mission. On this project, I planned and conducted system effectiveness studies. This included the design and development of fuse models (height-of-burst detectors) for use in the end-game simulation. Also evaluated fragmentation warhead lethality performance against threat radars, using established vulnerability methods. Modeled communications and link budget between controlling aircraft and remote piloted vehicles. -
Systems EngineerUnisys Defense Systems 1986 - 1988Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, UsUnisys Defense Systems, later acquired by Loral Space & Communications, teamed with the Hughes Aircraft Company in competition for U.S Government civilian and defense contracts. One example was the Federal Aviation Administration's Advanced Automation System On this program, I designed algorithms for beacon transponder / radar correlation and primary target classification and tracking of aircraft. On another program, I developed methods for Data Fusion from multiple sensors to support the early detection requirement for the Air Defense Initiative, and was granted an Exemplary Action Award for performance on this project. -
Software Systems EngineerIbm Federal Systems Division 1985 - 1986Armonk, New York, Ny, UsIBM's Federal Systems Division, later acquired by Loral Space & Communications, provided the software for the U.S. Air Force Defense Support Program (DSP) satellite. Major team players were TRW, who built the satellites, and Aerojet who provided the IR sensors. I designed mission operations algorithms for the DSP Ground Data Processing. Evaluated detection algorithms for SWIR and MWIR focal plane arrays, and for tracking and tactical parameter estimation using data from merged arrays. -
Mission AnalystNorthrop Ventura Division 1982 - 1985Falls Church, Va, UsNorthrop Corporation Ventura Division supplied Unmanned Airborne Vehicle (UAV) systems, aka Remote Piloted Vehicles (RPV) to the U.S. Navy. Planned and conducted system effectiveness studies for Unmanned Airborne Vehicle systems. Designed and developed Mission Analysis simulation models, including communications and link budget between controlling aircraft and Remote Piloted Vehicles.Wrote subsystem hardware and avionics performance specifications for a derivative remotely piloted vehicle system. Defined software requirements and conducted trade studies for hardware selection. Monitored subcontractor performance for hardware design modifications. -
Air Defense Systems EngineerLitton Data Systems 1978 - 1982UsLitton Data Systems provided Air Defense Command and Control systems to the U.S Government Department of Defense and to allied governments around the globe. Some examples at the time were the U.S. Army's AN/TSQ-73 system and the Marine Corps TAOC-85 upgrade program.I performed functional analyses of Air Defense Command and Control systems, including tracking, threat evaluation and weapon assignment, and display functions. Additionally, I designed functions for Air Traffic Control, correlation of primary and secondary radars, automatic passive tracking and ghosting, and remote fire control of anti-aircraft weapons. -
